Glad you're enjoying the show ! FYI - Angela's friend's name is Rayanne (Ray-anne), not Rayna. At the end of this episode you see Rayanne at the fashion show with Ricky and Angela...she puts on a name tag that says "SLUT" Also, I didn't hear you mention it in last week's episode of Angel, but Graham (Angela's father) was the man who hired Gwen Raiden to steal the Axis of Pythia and tried to kill her at the end.

To clarify for you, before this the norm for teen dramas was 90210, which was a very aspirational soap opera. This really was the first tv show, in my recollection, to show high school realistically. It paved the way for shows like Dawson's Creek and Party of Five to be a bit more down to earth than just teen soaps. I just have to say that the stuff about girls and women and their self images and how they tear themselves and others apart is so depressingly real. I worked as a bridal consultant for a while and saw everything from "perfect" looking girls who feel they need to hide their armpits because the skin there has a slight v shaped fold, to moms and sisters picking apart the bride's body to her face, to having one girl actually burst into tears when we found her dress because she'd "never felt beautiful before." It's horrifying and heartbreaking. I really hope that younger women are being brought up to at least tear each other down less, and maybe even be easier on themselves when they look in a mirror. That moment Patty has about not really letting herself feel beautiful when she was younger is something I've heard countless women in my life lament over the years. I think I may have had about three or four years when I actually felt beautiful and appreciated it, and based on anecdotal evidence that's more than most women claim to have experienced. And sadly, I think this holds true across most cultures. Be so glad you never had to be a teenaged girl. And yes, Ricky is the best character.
