It’s true that she did chose the power over his destiny, but she didn’t abandon him as he’d always believed. It’s actually rather poetic of their family's fate since Rumple always wants to pick love, but can’t resist his power, either.

It's not shocking that he lied about killing her though. He always does things to protect his family first and she would be a powerful ally. Plus, trying to gain her love which he didn't think he had. Otherwise, I like Zelina learning to not have powers. Though I would have started her with an automatic car and not manual lol.
