I thought it's cuz they've changed the feel of the show so much for this season, but no, it was just missing inner monologue, that was one of the trademarks of Dexter for 8 seasons. The second half of the episode started to feel more familiar. I was afraid they would change way too much and lose that "Dexter" feel to it.

2021-11-10 07:07:45 +0000 UTCSo glad that Dexter is back. I've been excited to see what he's been up to. My main takeaway...I love that he's still the guy who brings doughnuts to work :)

So many throwbacks to past seasons. Loved the symbolism of the white buck, so pure like Dexter has been trying to be. Dexter couldn't kill that pure life he wanted to maintain but it died with the buck! Then the inner monologue returns that wasn't there before.

2021-11-09 20:17:17 +0000 UTCDexter didn't just kill serial killers, he also killed people who recklessly caused loss of life and behaved in a way that they would likely do it again. In season 1 he kills a guy who had killed people via drunk driving and was still habitually driving drunk. The guy recklessly caused the death of 5 people and exhibited many careless traits that would easily cause more loss of life. Dexter really didn't want to give him that gun, he could tell the giuy didnt give a shit about anyone even before he learned what he had done, so when the guy shot the deer when he was right next to it, he snapped. Let's not forget Dexter has killed people that didn't fit his code at all, like the random asshole right before Rita's funeral. In this case, the guy definitely fits the code, but the kill was sloppy and not pre-planned, plus its a small town, so Dexter is likely going to be in trouble.

Sure the intention might not be to kill, but his friend said he hated the guy on the other boat and he admitted he hit the other guy's boat on purpose.

2021-11-09 11:52:33 +0000 UTCI felt like the finale of Dexter was just full of a bunch of symbolism which sounded great to them on paper but just fell flat in the production. Like Dexter disposed of Debs body in the same way as one of his kills because in his mind he killed her. His trying to change and not follow the code so he spared Saxon instead of killing him like the code demanded. So anything Saxon did after sparing him was on Dexter. And the storm was supposed to represent his inner turmoil and he just let it swallow him up. If your recall they kinda did a little time jump with Harrison for the final season because he was too young to really have any significant role I guess. Not that the role was that big but it allowed them to get someone a bit older who could actually do lines I guess? So they might have done the same here and given him a few extra years during the gap.
