Fun show, but they need to work on their villains. Adalind is not a good villain. She’s just annoying by and badly written. They keep bringing her back and she’s so boring.

Angela

If you're wondering why he took the key just to give it back you have to remember two things. First is the reason why he took it in the first place; Adalind threatened to reveal his identity to Nick. Second is the phone call he got from Juliette just seconds before he would have delivered the key to Adalind; "Nick knows it's you". Juliette unknowingly eliminated the only reason Renard had to give the key to Adalind in the first place. Nick already knew enough and at this point he could no longer try to control Nick from the shadows anymore. He now had to try to repair the relationship by any means, which meant giving back the key.

He wanted to wake her up because he didn't want her to die because her death would to take Nick away from Portland. If you watch from the start, despite his attempts to get the key, Sean (the captain) never tried to kill Nick, many times he protected him especially against his family (and the killers who were send after him unknowingly) who wanted to recover the key by hurting Nick. He wants to have Nick on his side but to keep him alive he had to get the key secretly or else it would be a confrontation, resulting in Nick's death. Remember that the Grimms, as Nick's mother explained, were one power, an entity, throughout the history of mankind they played a balancing role, and before Nick's father died, the Grimms worked for the royal family. The Grimms are therefore very important people, and Nick being the only one known, it becomes an advantage for whoever manages to persuade him to be on his side. Sean doesn't want the key for himself, we can see that if it were up to him, he wouldn't want it, but on the other hand, he is more interested in having Nick on his side than that of his family.
