also... i like how this episode kind of plays on the 5 stages of grief a bit. the first stage is denial. ryan (and to some extent summer) were in this stage at the beginning of the episode by essentially running away from what happened and not wanting to acknowledge it. the next stage is anger. that's where ryan is now (i.e fighting back in the ring and finally deciding to look for/go after volchok).

i love that you're drinking out of a jurassic park mug while watching an episode with chris pratt lol.

My favorite season!

Placebos Running up that Hill is a tremendous music choice for this episode. The opening scene is perfect and the closing scene is awesome as well. This is, in my opinion, the single greatest episode of the show. It has a sense of maturity to it you rarely see in teen dramas. The character's decisions actually make sense considering what happened and what we've seen of the characters so far. Julie and Ryan feel more lost than anyone, so of course them forming a bond is natural. In addition, Summer wanting to distance herself from everything that reminds her of Marissa feels natural too, albeit an unhealthy way of coping with grief. If this show could ever have a 10/10 episode, it would be this one.

Yes, finally we're in season 4 aka the best season !! Summer was so interesting this episode - she orchestrates this whole comic book intervention to bring Ryan home only to run away again herself. I think it's safe to say that she is trying to move on and push the thoughts of Marissa as far away as possible bc it just hurts too much. Julie's reaction surprised me too - her grief feels so real and raw and probably pretty close to how I would handle it. Ryan being in a fight club and pushing people away is a classic Ryan reaction. I'm glad he decided to fight in the end - fight the big guy in the cage, fight to make it back home, fight to avenge Marissa by finding Volchok. It's kinda ironic though that Marissa dying is what brought Ryan and Julie so close, who despised each other before.

LOVE THIS SEASON!

The OC is known for its great soundtrack and musical moments, and I gotta mention the two big songs they used in this episode. Placebo - Running up that hill (start of the episode) Keane - A Bad dream (Summer in her old room)

This episode has always been one of my favorites and it still holds up. It's a really good start to the season, to see how everyone has or hasn't been dealing with Marissa's death.

It was a very interesting start to season 4! You can tell people such as Ryan, Summer and Julie are going through it. Also to answer your question, Seth is still supposed to be going up to RISD but the second semester. (that was the plan as him and summer would eventually both be in RI) Plus Seth and Summer are still together but she's been pushing him and everything away as she hasn't fully delt with her grief.
