I’m glad you’ve brought up the villain thing because you’ve not liked a single villain they’ve done since Peter Pan in season 3. Trust me, I get that Pan was awesome and Snow Queen felt a bit left field with the Frozen arc, but Hades felt fun to me and Black Fairy has been presented pretty well as the final test and Jaime plays her pretty well. At least in my opinion, of course. Overall, though, I agree that Regina and Rumple were the best villains and that’s perhaps why the show couldn’t give them up. Rumple kinda slides back into that role every other arc and they felt the need to bring the Evil Queen back this season as well.

When the first curse was enacted Rumple told Snow when the Savior came to Storybrooke, the final battle would begin. So they’ve intentionally paralleled the ending with how it all began.
