Unfortunately most people only see the entitled element of the behaviour, and not the hyper-sensitivity to lacking control (which Rory, given the tumultuous side of her upbringing, clings to). Both can be true. Rory is more nuanced than the hot takes on her in the last few years.

Agree, I think we all have had break downs and they were probably not more pretty then rorys!

Mariella Nilsson

I agree!

For me this is the start of the decline of Rory's character. It was already not that great after she finished high school but this is where it get's hard for me to watch. But love your reactions too much to stop and there are some big episodes coming up so i'll be here next week :D :D

Am I the only one who's NOT a fan of Jason? Not just as a possible romantic partner for Lorelai but as a character. He just seems like one of those slick sleazy guys...It makes me cringe. I guess I just don't like people like that.

Five courses can be a lot depending on the courses and the amount of work that has to be done and Yale probably has some very heavy workload courses. While Rory had a heavy workload at Chilton (remember her breakdown early on when she transferred later in the year), college can be a whole other stress ball and throw in a different living situation than you’re used to. Tears in a corner can totally happen.

I love this episode. I love the scene between Emily and lorelai. I like lorelai and Jason’s banter with each other. I don’t love Jason as a person but he’s a very entertaining character and brings some good storylines to the show. My favorite is absolutely the Luke and Kirk stuff. Their friendship is one of my favorites in the show. An affair can also mean like an event. The β€œaffair” would be the party or trip to Atlantic City

This episode shows very well how a highly sensitive person experience the world. Rorys tendencies to get stressed out by her surrondings, sound and new things is very textbok! I appreciate this show for showing that, it is very rare to se on tv nowadays!

When you're 27 and you finally realize how annoying Rory is...

I loved the banter and borderline flirting with Jason and Lorelai. They have chemistry (even if the die hard Luke/Lorelai fans refuse to admit it :P) Lorelai storming down to his office to defend her mom was cute. She does love her mom and you could tell seeing her mom so hurt got to her. Rory was being so childish. It's a fucking TREE! Find another one! Kirk and his date was hilarious and a little sad that he automatically expected she was going to ditch him.

Yup I agree Jason is the male Lorelai

I think an affair can also mean a party or an event. Jason is basically a male version of Loralei. A lot of people seem to be annoyed by him, but I found him quite entertaining. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Kirk is the BEST side character on the whole show.

Just my opinion here, but I personally really disliked Lorelai's resolution with Digger at the end of the episode tbh, mainly because I felt it didn't quite feel right; Lorelai agreeing to go to dinner with him would've worked better if she'd thought her mother was just a little annoyed (it's perfectly up her alley to just want to annoy her mother), but because of the earlier scenes with Emily, Lorelai knew it wasn't going to piss Emily off, it was going to HURT her, and I think there is a big difference between those two with Lorelai. Lorelai loves to do things that will annoy her parents, but she's never wanted to actually hurt them - in anything she's done that has had that consequence, hurting her parents has never been the primary goal. At the end of the day, she doesn't want them hurt, which is why this felt so wrong for me here. Lorelai KNEW that Digger had hurt her mother - unknowingly, yes, but he still refused to budge, took the entire thing incredibly lightly and barely acknowledged that he'd caused any harm at all - and the way she just easily dropped that in favour of agreeing to his date didn't sit quite well with me. Idk, I feel like if she'd thought her mother was ONLY annoyed, it would have worked better for her to agree to go out with him to annoy her, but yeah in this scene, Lorelai knew that it wasn’t going to do that, it was going to do worse. Like I know they just wanted to set up Lorelai and Digger as an item, but yeah I wish Lorelai’s confrontation had been a bit more consistent with the situation...just my opinion.

Not THAT kind of Affair... And no, Sookie had never been to the Gilmore manor.

Tammy L. Faulkner

I loved Lorelai and Emily in this episode too. I think their relationship is one of the most interesting on the show. Because yes they are super annoyed with each other and can't understand the way they live their lives, but at the end of the day they're mother and daughter. And Lorelai will not let it stand if someone hurts Emily and vice versa. So good on her for standing up for her. As for Jason - I think him asking Lorelai out to spite her mother is not a great touch. Yes it's funny, but he doesn't get that Lorelai really cares about her parents, even if she disagrees with them all the time.

Not a great episode, Rory was so annoying in this one πŸ˜‚ glad Lorelai called her out on it. The Kirk scene and the Jason scene are very funny to me πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Love Jason!

An "affair" doesn't always refer to a romantic relationship, it can also refer to an event. A big party can be referred to as "a big affair." So in this instance, the title's referring to the big cocktail party that the A-plot is revolving around. And "An Affair to Remember" is a famous movie title, as a lot of Gilmore Girls episode titles like to reference. I really felt for Emily this episode. Rory not so much. I enjoyed Lorelai telling her to suck it up a little too much probably, lol.
