Yup, it takes a while with Capaldi, but it was so worth it 👍🏼

Let's not talk about the next Doctor yet (even though he was awesome) Matt Smith was amazing for an actor so young, he had some really great episodes and stories. Your man Moff wrote some very timey wimey episodes for him. There was a lot of callbacks in this, we got to see what was behind his door from the Minotaur episode (the crack), we got to see how the silents came about, and how the church of the silence too (i.e. what caused the kovarian chapter, River and blew up the TARDIS). Matt Smith was half btw because he had been cast in a movie at the time, likewise Karen was also wearing a wig because she had been cast as Nebula at this time in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Goodbye to my favourite Doctor...hello to what is probably the best Doctor (although it's a slow burn)

The war that was on the planet Christmas would have been nothing compared to the Time Lords coming back. They said it would be another Time War but this time against all the species in the sky. Remember the aliens who the 9th Doctor encountered during his season. Aliens who were affected by the Time War in various ways. The universe convulsed. No one wanted that. So if the Doctor dies then he can’t bring back the Time Lords but he also doesn’t want the planet to be burned down by the Papal Mainframe to keep the Time Lords from coming back. It’s a rock and a hard place. And he still doesn’t get his planet or people back. That’s the new Doctor from the 50th anniversary. Remember the eyes.

I cry everytime I watch this episode David Tennant and Matt Smith are my favourite doctors I really like the chemistry between Clara and the doctor

When Amy showed up... omg :(

11's regeneration kills me every time. It's so well acted and well written. The music, the acting, the bowtie coming off :(, Clara's face, and the Amy cameo. It's perfect.

Capaldi is my favourite Doctor as well, excited to see your thoughts on him.

According to the Doctor here, the Time Lords granted him a new regeneration cycle (which is 12 regenerations) - as we’ve only had two doctors since this episode we aren’t entirely sure if it is 12 regenerations yet, but we can assume so. And yes, you’re right about Peter Capaldi being in the Pompeii episode with Donna, same actor.

The 12 regenerations rule is a rule from the Classic Series, understandable you weren't familiar with it: the new series really didn't talk about it much until THIS episode.

I haven’t watched your reactions to most of this season purely because I honestly didn’t like S7 but I can’t wait to see some of your reactions with the 12th Doctor! I remember not liking him at all but as I got older my views changed. He’s honestly great and an incredible actor. Although 10 will always be my doctor ahah.

S

Imagine how good he was he was, they are looking in their mind for an older actor kind of decided and then you go in for the biggest audition of your life and you fuckin' nail it so good they change their mind and cast literally the youngest actor ever to play the role. Props to Matt, hope he nails it in the new Game of Thrones spinoff he was cast in.

Here we goooo!!!!! Here comes 12ths era and in comes ACADEMY AWARD WINNER (for a short film documentary in 1997 but still an Oscar hahaha) Peter Capaldi. Hes amazing as an actor, most tenured and my personal favourite Doctor of em all. And ofcourse while watching during the years I felt the same as you and everyone. It may take a while to get used to him, he is The Doctor in a style of the classic Who which I personally came to love more than the dashing young romantic hero style of Smith and Tennant. Peter Capaldi is a total lifelong Doctor Who geek since the 70's, even wrote a petition to become the leader of the Doctor Who fan club or something. He gets it right. He was actually offered the role in the 90's to star in the Doctor Who movie but he didnt even go to the audition because he couldnt bare to try and screw it up, so the role went to Paul McGann who you saw recently in the minisode The Night of The Doctor. The people watching werent confused, Doctor Who is celebrated and the Christmas Specials air on December 31st and its kinda like tradition to have the TV on and watch Doctor Who. They get as many viewers as the finales or premiers so sometimes its a silly episode or a very important one. As for the regeneration, they had a whole event live on TV to reveal who was cast and Peter Capaldi apeared on stage and they interviewed him. The way you are watching the show is kinda better, all the surprises were ruined by real life.

Haven't seen the reaction yet! But my 2nd fav doctor is here! (My 1st will always be the 10th Doctor) And I can't wait for you to dive into Capaldi's era! And he is magnificent.

Timelords can regenerate 13 times but can be given a new set. So he was given another 13 regenerations. Peter Capaldi was in the Pompeii episode. (So was Karen) Doctor Who has a history of actors who were on the show and eventually become the doctor/companions. Most of the time they don't address it. (They did with Martha's actress being in the Torchwood episode and Martha said her "Cousin" was there) Honestly, I really like 12. 11 is my favorite Doctor (10 is a close second) but 12 really grew on me and had some of the best episodes and dialogue of the series. I like this episode because it ties up all of 11's storyline. It even tells us what was in his hotel room. Though when I first watched it, I sobbed so hard. 11 is my favorite Doctor (as I said) and it was hard to see him grow older and like you said, 11 and Clara had a lot of romantic tension and I was disappointed it wasn't explored....but I can say Clara and 12 have an interesting companionship. All the Doctors need a special moment to say "Goodbye." So they reset 11 so he can have his speech and tell Clara and mostly the Audience his fairwells. Fun fact: Both Matt and Karen were wearing wigs. Matt shaved his head his role in Terminator and Karen shaved hers for Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy. okay, done rambling.

They gave him an entire new set of 12 regens as far as we are led to believe in this episode. As for the new doctors age; it was rumored that Matt Smiths doctor was originally intended to be played by an older man, as they wanted to step away from the last couple *younger* doctors, but then Smith nailed the audition. Smith excels at playing the 'old soul' very very well, so Capaldi being cast here is likely going back to last times original intent of going with someone older again. Also, couldn't tell if you glossed over it or not, but it's revealed in this episode that 'the church' is the same church who goes after the Doctor in earlier seasons. a sector of them broke off and went back in the doctors own timeline. they groom river into an assassin, they kidnap Amy and her baby in demons run, team up with the headless monks; the silents bring the young River Song in the astronaught suit to assassinate the doctor, etc. plus they revealed that they were also responsible for the tardis breaking ('silence will fall' was echoed inside t he tardis right before it blew up) so they did a lot to tie up and explain all those older storylines, connecting all of it; the crack; tardis blowing up, the church that kidnapped amy/abducted her daughter/the silents, etc all in Smiths final big bang episode. The Madam of the church also makes a comment about Matt Smiths face being new and fresh to her; because this is the churches first dealings with him since he regenerated then they go back and deal with him for all those seasons.

Great reaction, I love this episode, and now my personal favorite DOCTOR by light years is here with Tennant coming in a very distant 2nd place

My favourite Doctor is here i'm so excited. Capaldi was in the Series 4 episode Fires of Pompeii. Peter Capaldi is a lifelong Doctor Who fan so this is literally a dream come true for him. Twelve and Clara are one of my favourite Doctor- Companion duos. I also loved that they moved away from the young, handsome Doctor. I love the weight and gravitas that Capaldi brings to the role, he feels like a thousand-year-old Alien. Matt’s final speech may be my favourite regeneration scene and I love that they brought back Amy. Karen Gillan was filming Guardians at the time of this so she was wearing a wig, so was Matt Smith for a role he was doing. Announcing the new Doctor is a very big thing in England, so while its airing it’s not a big surprise that the Doctor is regenerating.
