The Investigator that Nancy and Jonathan went to see was actually in the first episode of the season when he was bothering Hopper with all of his theories about Barb's disappearance and the Russian girl aka Eleven.

2021-02-27 12:29:19 +0000 UTCEarly on Hopper notices all of the rot spreading to the farms circles hawkins lab on the map. So he goes to the new guy in charge and says "I keep things quiet for you and you keep your shit out of my town" so he pretty much forces them to investigate the farms, and we get a scene of them taking samples at the rotting pumpkin farm, the new guy in charge still not taking it seriously. Then in this episode we get the scene where they realize the dirt is acting odd when interacting with heat. So the lab guys know to go back to the farm since they discovered the samples they took form that same farm are tainted by the upside down. Explaining this here since it won't explain it in the next episode. Basically Hopper was right, but they didn't believe him until they discovered the samples acting weird, so them showing up at the end of the episode is them going "oh shit, things are worse than we thought we gotta get this under control"

You will love the series further on. I used to only watch TVD with you but now really enjoying Brian’s reactions to ST since he started watching it and you guys together reacting to it is even more fun to watch. I love this episode. The investigator is the same guy who Barb’s parents hired to find out about Barb. I love Steve so much. Him and Dustin are a great pair. A funny one indeed haha. Btw the actor who plays will (Noah Schnapp) is an insane actor. Being so young and acting like that WOW he is gonna be a huge star someday. The show and Noah won a few awards like an EMMY/ SAG awards I guess and that last scene he did that on his own. How good is that? Next episode is really good one of my favs from this season. Can’t wait for it. Super excited!!
