Nope. Never have been a Spuffy kinda person 🤢🤮 I wanted to add that you should try not to look at the intro credits, you will get spoiled for the episode, I'm thinking of OMWF and a few others where its happened rather than this episode but I wanted to mention it

2021-03-09 13:30:29 +0000 UTCThe Spike and Buffy relationship was meant to be toxic and unbalanced. I completely understand not liking it, while still loving the Spike character. I think that the beauty of including this relationship is that it can be similar to real life ones. Not all relationships are healthy, a ton are unbalanced and toxic. Since Buffy is going through a hard time and feels like Spike is the only person she can talk to, it kind of makes sense, IMO.

Like I'm clearly supposed to laugh at them, and often I am mildly amused, but it just doesn't clear that "funny" bar. So it doesn't quite work.

Many people, especially in their early 20's and especially when they're in a situation like Buffy where they don't really have a clear direction in life aside from going through the daily motions, get into relationships with abusive and manipulative people. That's the purpose of this arc. The reason it's not particularly enjoyable to watch is that it's uncomfortable, not that it's empty... it's actually very effective at creating discomfort. If you just want a show that's going to make you feel good, watch Ted Lasso.

Spike was a pretty damned hopeless romantic in life, and this is what that turns into when you take the soul away, according to the show's mythology.

Spike is disgusting, manipulating Buffy to be with him, telling her she came back wrong and trying to separate her from her friends. Because there is not way a "normal" Buffy will be interested in him.

Spike trully believes he loves her, becasue its the closest thing he felt to love. Buffy just wants to feel good, when real life is fucked up people do these kind of things. Relationships between people like Buffy and Spike happen all the time. Its flawed and imperfect and thus very relatable as many things are in the Buffyverse, which is exactly why I love the Buffy/Spike relationship. As for the villains, these guys have go away heat with me. They really grind my gears and annoy me not in a way I would want from my TV show bad guy. Id say the biggest weakness of this whole show are the villains. I dont know whos worse, these 3 or the little kid from S1...

This particular plot with Willow, her addiction, personally, I understand what she going through, really, on a personal level. But so far it seems over the top/too on the nose. But again, some love it, some hate it, some are in between. And Buffy and Spike have definitely gotten to a toxic point before ..commencing their relationship.. and.. yeah. So most people have pretty ambiguous feelings about that. If there's something I think it without a doubt excelled in, it's portraying depression, and misogyny/toxic masculinity.

2021-03-07 08:03:11 +0000 UTCAs far as the magic depiction goes, I think they're going for a Harry Potter-esque approach in that the more powerful a witch/wizard becomes, the less they have to do to perform the spells. Like they become instinctive, or something to that effect. But yeah I definitely think they went overboard with it.

With Dru it was never something pure it was mostly lustful yeah he cared but it will always be limited if one has no soul. Unlike Angels love or Rileys love for Buffy Spikes love is more unpure he is still a demon after all.

She is using him to feel something, something more than the emptiness and loneliness. Spike is infatuated with Buffy but is mistaking it for love. He also has a skewed idea of love being soul less. Let’s face it, there are always going to be people that want to ship everyone lol I always appreciated the Buffy/spike relationship, not for romance or fan service, but because relationships like that exist and it’s realistic. Unfortunately not all relations are based off romantic love or are healthy.

2021-03-07 06:23:25 +0000 UTCMy big issue with this episode is the way they depict magic. For seasons people needed incantations and ingredients but now it's more like Sabrina point and poof magic. Also Xander is a bad friend. He agrees that she is using too much magic but he didn't even try to talk to Willow about it. He is her oldest friend and Buffy is having post post mortem trauma, so he should really step up and at least say something.

2021-03-07 06:13:09 +0000 UTCI like the idea of Spike and Buffy in general, and I liked the scenes between them toward the end of season 5 and the beginning of this season, but I'm not a fan of the more twisted aspects, like what we get in this episode. The nerds are terrible and the humor they use with them rarely works for me. And the way Willow and Amy use magic in this episode is way too much like Bewitched, where they just twitch and something mystical happens. And while you could try to explain it by Willow having become more powerful, it just doesn't work for me. On the up side, I really liked the scenes between Dawn and Tara. Overall I give this episode a 6 or 7.
