Bjorn was 12 going on 13 when he got his arm ring at the beginning of season 1. I believe a good 2 to 3 years passed between season 1 and the season 2 opener. The time jumps can be counted by child growth either in the whomb or as they grow or hair growth. It also takes time to build boats as well as traveling across the seas to different countries from weeks to months
