To be honest, as someone who grew up watching both the OC and One Tree Hill, this is the far superior show. I still stand by that opinion even now. This show gets so much deeper as it goes on, so much darker, while the OC kind of just stays the same.

I know that bugged me forever when this show first aired (trying to place where I knew her voice from lol). She was also the ice skater who got paired with the former hockey player as a partner in the original Cutting Edge movie years prior.

2021-04-26 01:18:17 +0000 UTCAlso to add on to what I was saying about Lucas really punching Dan rather than Nathan....that's literally what this whole episode is about. It's about Dan having a hold over Lucas. Luke quit the team when he was young because of Dan. He thought about quitting again now because of Dan's hold on him. That's why he did poorly in the game. Then entire episode represents his feelings about Dan's influence over him. Even Dan handing him Nathan's bag and calling him "son." Yes, he meant that in a "son" or "boy" or "kid" way, but he also knew it was Lucas and did it to purposefully mess with him. You guys said he didn't know it was Luke, but he definitely knew. Notice that messing with people is Dan's MO and you can see this throughout the first two episodes. He was purposefully trying to get under Lucas's skin before his second game. That's also why Luke ripping off the Scott name at the end was symbolic. It was him letting Dan's hold over him go. The quote he says at the end from Atlas Shrugged tells us this: “Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it's yours.” It perfectly encapsulates Luke's feelings and his stepping from the darkness/loneliness he's been in all these years into the world that was supposed to be his if Dan had treated him like a son. He would have been Nathan essentially.

When the coach walked in, he was making fun of all the guys, coz they were taking too long to get ready, asking if they need to put their make up on, and Jake(being the slowest one) needs to match his pumps to his skirt, referring to how girls usually taking longer to get ready(again with make-up and outfit picking etc.) I think you missed the first part of the joke and took it as if he was just making fun of Jake.

2021-04-07 18:06:46 +0000 UTCI’m glad other people explained Nathan‘s comments about quitting the team because I thought that he was just being your typical jackass lol “Your art matters. It’s what got me here.” Easily one of my favorite lines of the show. Lucas and Peyton are obviously forging a connection here. And Peyton gets to know that her art does mean something to somebody.

2021-04-07 14:07:25 +0000 UTCThe conversation between Nathan and Payton about quitting the team was honest on his part (a little part of him was actually thinking that - and he gave good reasons why he wanted to quit). But he knew that this was his calling and couldn't really quit, even if part of him wanted to. When Payton got intense about her desire to quit the whole basketball thing with Nathan, he joked and moved on, but this wasn't one of his jerk moments (not intentionally anyway), he just made a bad response in (''yeah, that's what I'm gonna do'') by saying he can't really do that.

2021-04-07 09:01:32 +0000 UTCAs for the fight....I think they were a little more cautious about showing violence on shows like this back in the mid-2000's. However, I feel like it also came down to wanting to leave the audience hanging over the commercial break on what actually happened. That was right where the commercial was back in the day. So they ended up verbally explaining what happened later. Nathan does a lot of what he does because of how he's been raised and his father's expectations. He is obsessing over Lucas right now because his father is. So he's so freaking happy when Lucas does bad in the first game, which is why he wants to celebrate it when he's making out with Peyton. When Nathan say's Lucas was really punching Dan...he's referring to the fact that Dan is really the cause of all of this. He's the reason they hate each other. He's the reason Lucas did bad in his first game. He's the reason Lucas feels out of place in his hometown and even his school. Sure, Nathan is instigating it, but it's really Dan that is causing it all. I mean...Nathan literally called him a bastard right before Lucas went off. Nathan's whole speech about quitting the team is a way to show the audience how he really feels inside. He say "I don't even like it anymore. Whitey can't stand me. It's never good enough for my dad." He's not serious, but it's his way of telling her how he feels and sort of testing the waters of what she thinks about his real thoughts. It's his way of expressing himself without really being vulnerable with her. He plays it off as a joke, but still gets to say how he really feels. Basically he makes her feel like shit for being vulnerable and telling her true feelings and he plays his off as a joke just meant to screw with her. You ask what Karen's maiden name was for Lucas to potentially put on the uniform...it's Roe. That's what the entire porn name discussion with Hailey was meant to reveal to the audience. He say's his mother's maiden name is Roe. I won't comment on Peyton's webcam. That is kind of explained as time goes on. The way that Dan's voice fades into the background when he tells Nathan to block out everything that's bothering him is great. Obviously Dan is listing other things that could be bothering Nathan and doesn't mean himself, but this shows that Dan is the real cause of Nathan's issues. Someone already explain Whitey's comments to Jake. It was just a play on what he said to all the guys when he walked into the locker room.

2021-04-07 08:36:31 +0000 UTCI love your guys theories .. some are right, some are way off, but it's super fun to watch .. As for what Whitey was saying: he said before "why are you taking so long, do you need to put on make up?" and then he just took that joke further with Jake taking the longest in the locker room .. so he was basically saying he should move faster .. it was not meant offensively at all ..
