2021-04-09 02:32:23 +0000 UTCi get why you'd feel that way but i don't think you can compare dexter's other relationships to his one with rita because the dynamic was totally different. lumen and hannah both knew about dexter's secret and they still loved him. rita never got that option because she never knew that side of him. there was a whole part to him she didn't know but the other women did and that's why those relationships seem more intense/passionate. it doesn't mean he loved rita any less, nor does it appear that way.

Getting another girlfriend after your spouse dies doesn't mean they never cared for their dead wife. What is Dexter supposed to do? Sit around crying and swear off women for the rest of his life to prove his love and devotions for her? I guess I am just not seeing HOW you think he should be acting in order to prove to you that Rita DID mean something to him. I wrote this a couple weeks ago (I'm guessing Steven didn't read it) but it still applies so: Dexter didn't say he loves Hannah more than Rita. He said he has been scared like that, twice. Once when he was 3 and watched his mother get killed and the past few days when he thought he might never see Hannah again. If you think about it at 3 Dexter had feelings and emotions. He wasn't born a psychopath. He isn't a psychopath because he doesn't have any physiological defect that resulted in the underdevelopment of the part of the brain responsible for impulse control and emotions. Which makes him a sociopath (with psychopathic tendencies). The fact that he once had emotions means he has the ability to regain them. Sociopaths do genuinely care for some individuals but struggle. Rita's death made him understand that what he felt for her was indeed love but he couldn't recognize it because he's so screwed up. She broke through years of trauma and she did what Harry couldn't. She made him love. She gave him Harrison. Had she not been killed I think Dexter would have stopped killing people. That's how much he loved her. If not for Rita, Dexter would have never been capable of caring for Hannah. That is not lost on Dexter. Hannah accepts Dexter but she doesn't make him a better person.

2021-04-08 19:10:42 +0000 UTCA good episode, but i have a big problem with one of the choices in this episode. I will elaborate more in the last episode. In regards to your comment about the show making us feel that Rita was not important, i don't see it that way. Without Rita Dexter wouldn't have grown even a bit. It was a step in the right direction for Dexter. I really don't think that there was a possibility of a future with Rita, but that doesn't change the importance of her in Dexter's life. With Hannah a future was possible to imagine and expect.
