I for one love Spuffy

While I agree that Buffy and Spike relationship is quite toxic. They are both in part to blame for it and in part be excused for it. It’s not black and white and that’s why it’s so fascinating. In this episode their interaction was very sweet. What I find particularly disturbing is how the Scoobies treat Spike. He is supposed to be there for their convenience as weapon, a nanny, a protector, a punching ball but they are quick to belittle him and suddenly remember that he is a soulless vampire when they don’t need him.

At least now you're over the brunt of really slow and ugh episodes. The last 4 really pick up and the next one is at least interesting. I can't wait for you to watch season 7, it's a lot better imo, but season 6 does have a major point when its all said and done. I hope you pick up what they're putting down once the conclusion comes to a head.

The show ended after season 7 because Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t want to do the show anymore. Both the network and Joss would have kept it on the air if she wanted to keep doing it. But Joss left it up to Sarah to decide and she was just burnt out and done with the character and wanted to move on to making movies full time.

United States So here's the thing: Buffy (the show) isn't Supernatural, and Buffy (the character) isn't Dean Winchester. Buffy's struggle with being yanked out of Heaven is completely different from Dean's struggle with being rescued from Hell. It sounds like you would have enjoyed this season more if they had addressed Buffy's struggle more like Supernatural did with Dean. At the very least, you aren't a fan of the narrative that Buffy's major struggle was re-discovering the spark she had prior to her death.

Ditto!

anyone whose been paying attention to xander throughout the course of the series should not be surprised by his actions here. it wasn't just the fake vision that scared him away. he's been talking about his own dysfunctional family for years on the show (albeit in a joking way, but we all know he uses jokes to mask his pain). pair that with his mysoginistic comments about women and his comments about fearing committment throughout this season... and all of that brings us here, to this moment. i'm not a huge xander fan but i'm not at all surprised by what he did here.

Xander always fell for the Girls that had no interest in him and got i bit bitter, but anya, with her non human interaction liked him, so he was with her because she liked him. i never really got the feeeling that he loved her. Maby he couldn’t love.

Round of applause for the commentary during the whole episode. I love Spuffy but I am okay with how much he hates the pairing and once he sees Spike, he's just done. lolol Also the commentary for Xander breaking up with Anya, "Well you suck, so are you leaving the show? Cause I don't want Anya to leave the show. So are you leaving? Cause I get what your down, you suck for it on all levels but---"

Tia

Same, I never liked them

I always loved how subtle they were with Xander up to this point. Most shows now would clearly show the dysfunctional family/abuse storyline, and heavily at that. At this point, it makes so much sense and makes you look back to previous signs sprinkled throughout the show. Comments he made throughout, the scene with his dad's silhouette in Restless, him sleeping outside in Amends during the holidays what with the drinking inside, his insecurities being so prominent. I hate that he left her at the alter, but the acting for this scene was spot on. I couldn't hate him 😔 x

Agreed 100%

It's so refreshing to see someone hate the Buffy/Spike thing as much as me.

homoerotic 80s volleyball scene personified

I hate watching this episode and, with how the season is going for him, I assume he'll hate it even more than I do. This is just a real depressing one. Maybe we should get him to take a Buffyverse break for a few weeks after this season.

I think it makes sense for Spike to be there. The others don't know about his relationship with buffy. But Spike has been part of the scoobies for a while now, ever since he stuck around to look after Dawn when Buffy was dead. Giles his absence not even being mentioned is something I find weirder. They should have given a reason, like fog in England, or that Giles couldn't make it for other reasons. Xander doesn't like Spike much, but he's part of the gang.

Buffy wasn't cancelled, season 7 is meant to be the end of the story. Angel was cancelled. Joss was often scared about cancellations up until thus season, and the comic books continue stories but the writers and creators meant for it to end how it does in season 7 (you'll see). Also its fine that this isn't your favorite season, I don't know why people are getting that upset with you. Sarah Michelle Gellar hated this season too for how dark it was. I would say just roll with what it gives you at this point. I hope things turn around for you though with the rest of the show.

Mattisen Walter

Great episodes. Xander gets a lot of hate but all I see if the amazing acting between Nicholas and Emma in that scene when he's explaining why he can't marry her. When he looks at his parents fighting and says "I don't want to hurt you, not that way" it absolutely broke my heart and really showed how broken xander is from growing up in the family he did. I really think is class clown personality he's always had is to cover up how sad he really is. Definitely sad for anya to but I like how this story line has ended up at this point.

Stacey

Poor Anya. She's better off.
