So you guys mentioned at the end of the episode you weren't sure why the dad would kill himself. The dad told Klaus during that scene, you guys were talking over the dad explaining why he did it. The dad knew about the coming apocaylpse and needed the kids to come back together to save the world. He knew that they wouldn't take his phone call or come home just from him asking so he needed to do something drastic to get them to all come back together.
