Sam had also moved on from his past so hanging onto this even more would've only brought him more suffering. In episode 4 of last season Sam revealed that being to hell changed him and he doesn't feel guilty about his past anymore. Because of that it was easier for him to actually let go and move on. Something he and Dean always promised they'd do but can never help themselves. Sam finally broke the cycle, but because Dean is still broken. He's hurt more than anything. Dean is a great character but he has crazy abandonment issues. He actually felt the loss of family while Sam never grew up in a normal life. Dean had that for at least 4 years and hasn't gotten over it since.

2021-06-16 18:44:48 +0000 UTCGarth is awesome 👍🏻 This tension between sam and dean isn’t my favourite story arc tho. In the first episode Dean got back he asked sam ‘you did search for me tho?!’ And sam implies that he didn’t at all. He just assumed Dean was dead and ran away and turned off his phone. Many fans treat it like him having a mental break because it’s pretty OOC for sam 🤷🏻♂️ But I guess people can do weird things when they are grieving.
