ugh when i first watched the show i was team leyton and now rewatching here i still am and i know that what they did was wrong but i just always felt like lucas has a much better connection with peyton. i love brooke and i tried to be into their relationship but i just feel like her and lucas didn't have the same spark or chemistry as he did with peyton. so while i hate the love triangle situation and i hate that they hurt brooke, i cant help but love lucas and peyton's moments together

2021-10-20 05:03:52 +0000 UTCDan didn't cheat on Karen. He just left her. Lucas is mad because Dan never tried to be a father to him. What are you talking about?

Just like in real life every character has good traits and bad traits, even the "villian" (dan) we get glimpse of a better side or maybe a more vulnerable side of him here, which is amazing job on the writers of the show.

There's nothing wrong with her impulsivity or her being interested in the things she's interested in unless she wants to change those things. The big change she made with Lucas was that before she wasn't letting anyone in for a real relationship because deep down she's scared of what would happen if things didn't work out, but with Lucas she finally let him in, so this whole thing is horrible to her. For the first time she let herself be vulnerable, and the two people who were supposed to care the most about her, hurt her.

2021-06-23 20:31:59 +0000 UTCHaley being a supportive GF is everything. Nathan needs that so badly and I’m Glad he’s got that with her. I really hate the Lucas/Payton cheating storyline here. I don’t even think I was very invested in Luke’s relationship with either girl. I just don’t like that they essentially messed up a friendship that’s been there for years over a guy. If it had to happen, though, I’m glad it wasn’t when Brooke and Lucas had been going out for longer. It would suck for them to go months or years together only for Luke to be like...oh, yeah, I wanna kiss your BFF. That would be awful. Like, did you ever love Brooke or did you want Peyton the whole time? At least this way, it’s like, as awful as it is that those two hooked up when Brooke was being such a wonderful loving friend to both, it’s in the beginning stages of the relationship so it’s not as bad as it could’ve been.

2021-06-20 12:40:43 +0000 UTCyes exactly! I always viewed the writing decision to have them hook up here as Lucas definitely not being very invested in his relationship with Brooke. Peyton said no to him and Brooke said yes .. so he chose to date Brooke bc he thought Peyton didn’t want him .. now that Peyton does he was so caught in the moment that he really didn’t think about what that would mean for Brooke ..

2021-06-19 22:04:01 +0000 UTCLike Terri said, I think the point in which the Lucas/Peyton cheating happened, is actually exactly what the story meant to do. Brooke and Lucas have been dating for ~3 weeks or a month, I forget the timeline, but a pretty short period of time. But we’ve seen how much Brooke likes Lucas and how this is her first serious relationship with a guy. We’ve also known that Lucas has been infatuated with Peyton for a very long time and has actually gotten to talk to her this year and know her and to validate and deepen his feelings for her. We then have Peyton, who we know, also returns those feelings. Obviously, Peyton and Lucas did a very crappy thing to Brooke, but I think the point of it all is that it was always Peyton for Lucas, since the beginning. The entire reason he got into a relationship with Brooke was because Peyton rejected him. The entire reason Brooke and him even got close in the first place is because of their connection to Peyton. The writers choosing not to build Brooke/Lucas further was for that reason that the audience is supposed to feel that Lucas and Peyton are the primary couple.

2021-06-19 12:07:51 +0000 UTCYou actually gave the reasoning why the show didn't follow what you thought should have happened. You said that you don't know why the show didn't drag out the love triangle and make the audience love Brooke/Lucas before destroying things. You then said...it didn't hit you as much and you weren't really sad that Lucas cheated. The show didn't want people to hate Lucas or Peyton as characters!! If they had played up the Brooke/Lucas relationship and made the audience grow to really love it they would have suffered A LOT of backlash and people would have hated Lucas/Peyton. Heck, as you can tell from most of the comments you get here...even just from the little they did here...created a TON of backlash. There were a lot of Brooke/Lucas fans out there even by this point in the show. I don't think the writers expected that. See...they left a TON of hints since episode 1 that Peyton and Lucas had something going on. Brooke was just meant to be a dramatic speed bump to slow down their relationship progress. However, sometimes fans really enjoy a couple that is meant to just be the "speed bump" couple, which at this point in show show it seems like Brooke/Lucas is. So basically they wanted to create some drama, but not destroy people's opinions of the main characters. Showing Lucas cheating and Peyton betraying her best friend was bad enough without the Brooke/Lucas relationship being months or years long. However, I do agree that Nathan should have stayed out of basketball a bit longer to build that.

2021-06-19 08:45:49 +0000 UTCoh yes! i really appreciate the little moments where they nathan and dan can look at each other and you see recognition and respect for one another. dan is such an interesting character and one of the many things i love about one tree hill. like you said, it speaks volumes of the actors. there's something so powerful they can express with just a glance. there's something very beautiful in those quiet moments.

2021-06-19 05:36:49 +0000 UTCDan is easily one of the best characters in the show. He goes through the ringer but he's also a victim of the circumstances and misunderstandings he faces. Also a big thing that I really loved about Nathan's relationship with Dan is that there is some level of love/respect there. It gets squandered a lot because of what Dan does but I think deep down he cares about Dan because it's his dad. One Tree Hill's greatest strengths are in some of the quieter moments where the characters show their heart. The actors do a good job at showing the range of their characters and the best part is, the actors all get better as time goes on. Nathan's actor was super new to all of this and was casted straight out of high school. So he really grows through the show. Also, don't know you know this or if it has been commented before but Lucas's actor was originally supposed to play Ryan on the OC. He turned down that role to play Lucas in OTH.

2021-06-19 04:33:34 +0000 UTCthe moment when you said you felt bad for dan in that moment.....that's what makes this show something so special. i've seen it so many times. i've seen dan throughout his absolute worst. i know this character. but i would be lying if i said my heart didn't break for him. especially when whitey was like "happy birthday danny" as he left. for a show to bring about humanity to a character as cruel as dan, that takes some brilliant writing and acting. my heart did go out to him and in those interactions, i saw him not as dan scott the adult, but you could see so much of nathan in him in those moments. for all one one tree hill's nonsense *cough* what happened between peyton and lucas this episode *cough* it has so many brilliant moments like this as well. also the way i took nathan's decision was a mix between both of your takes. i think he wants to stick it out to get out from under dan's thumb, but also there were certain scenes where it fixated on nathan staring at his dad with this weird mix of sympathy, love, and betrayl. he loves his dad so, so much. that can't really be denied. and that's not something he can really just get past either. he wants to make his father proud and has his whole life and that's not something that can just go away. but he also has utter disgust for his father's actions and behaviors and wants desperately to stand on his own and be able to prove himself to himself. that was just how i took that.

2021-06-19 02:57:37 +0000 UTCI really hated Peyton and Lucas in here the betrayal after making Brooke feel like an overbearing jelous gf who has nothing to worry about. If they where honest about theyre feelings i'm quite sure Brooke could have understood it less drama but this is a teen drama after all. When i first watched the show i thought Lucas is such an hypocrite for hating on Dan leaving and cheating on Karen when he acts the same way towards Peyton and Brooke confuses them soo much. Good think i love about the show is the growth in every charecter and theyre journey.

2021-06-19 01:45:04 +0000 UTCI would love for you guys to do some sort of character rankings thing soon, maybe at the end of the season. A lot these characters change and evolve so much over time. But other than that, I agree about the Peyton and Lucas cheating thing being introduced way too quickly. The moment made sense for sure. Having them both being caught up in their own emotions, and literally being confined inside of a motel where it’s just them and the outside world (mainly Brooke) just doesn’t exist in their minds. But I will say that regardless, it won’t take away from the betrayal that Brooke feels if or when she finds out what happened to them because at the end of the day we know that she trusted them enough to send them on this trip together.
Nathan
2021-06-18 21:33:47 +0000 UTCIt was hinted that they did lose a game without Nathan. It was asked at dinner if they were still undefeated and there were some glances before saying "yes". So I think that means they lost a game.

2021-06-18 19:20:26 +0000 UTCThe moment with Lucas and Peyton is such a love/hate moment for me. I want them to get to together but this is such an awful thing to do to ur girlfriend and bestfriend. I like Brooke and Peyton equally, but i don't like what Peyton and Lucas did. I don't agree that i was too soon for them to have this moment, because i feel like Lucas only choose Brooke because he was hurt by Peyton not because he wanted Brooke more. So the first time i saw this i was 100% waiting and expecting this moment to happen pretty fast. It's a teen series and things happen so fast sometimes, like with this situation and with Nathan quitting the team and then rejoining it the next episode. I actually felt a little!! bad for Dan in this episode. I mean it was the man's birthday.. but then again this is what happens when ur an asshole. Dan is a very selfish person and the fact that he would do this to his own son after suffering so much because of his dad. It's really something. Keith was extra funny to me in this episode and he said so little 😂
