2021-06-27 07:09:05 +0000 UTCLmao so much to process from these comments.... but imma just say remember: They're freaking teenagers with raging hormones in a relatively safe, sub urban area and most of them don't have to worry about money... that's a recipe for constant mistakes. Teenagers are largely selfish af because they don't realize the magnitude of their actions and the ripple effects their choices actually have. Especially when in unfamiliar territory. Lucas got a taste of the popular life since joining the team and more attention breeds more problems. Especially given that most of the parents here have issues of their own (Dan got two girls pregnant when he was 18 or so and he brought that history with him back to Tree Hill) and many don't know how to handle it. Idk, I guess my take is, teens are gonna fuck up. Providing no one gets killed, imma just sit back and watch the drama play out cause its about watching these characters grow and learn from their mistakes. Who among us was a perfect teen? I myself have done quite a bit that when looking back, I was a diiiiiick over half the time. High school does that to you when you're just trying to survive.

2021-06-25 22:39:53 +0000 UTCHmmm this arc. One tree hill for better or worse is infamous for the neverending love triangles that they had. Who you blame ultimately depends on which character you like the most at this point in time. I personally always identified with Peyton and to some extent Lucas the most. It was always clear to me from the start of the show that Peyton and Lucas have a connection, I think everyone including Brooke can see that hence her well founded insecurities throughout her relationship with Lucas. I wish she had trusted her gut and stayed out of it but then we wouldn't have this lovely triangle. Even fans of the Lucas and Peyton ship would ultimately tell you that they hated this arc because it was tawdry and ultimately did a disservice to all the characters involved. Peyton did feel bad but not enough to really stop and she does pay for that. I agree that Lucas is kind of callous in this episode but I think it's important for his character to kind of devolve a bit in this season. We really kind of see Nathan and Lucas kind of switch places in character and temperament based on their new influences. Brooke isn't necessarily a bad influence so much as a different one. Same thing with Haley. Haley isn't totally always good either and we saw a bit of her character change in response to dating Nathan. Even though One tree hill is basically a teenage soap they have always been great at growing and changing characters.

2021-06-25 22:34:29 +0000 UTCBrooke in OTH is very similar to Summer in The OC. They were the party girl best friends who initially seemed more into sex and drinking and partying than they eventually ended up being. Both started off as extra, recurring characters who were later made a central part of the cast after both of them resonated with the fans of the show. And both Brooke and Summer showed tremendous growth in their respective characters over the course of their shows. I doubt I'm the only one who's seen this parallel (one of many) between these two shows.

2021-06-25 21:44:20 +0000 UTCPeyton is more to blame than Lucas, beacuse she is THE BESTFRIEND, from brooke perspective. She has known Lucas for a very short time, but peyton and brooke go way back.

2021-06-25 20:38:05 +0000 UTCah yes, this episode.....lol what a mess. i know it's the whole plot right now and makes for good drama but i'm always like "why even put brooke through this???" like couldn't lucas and peyton have just been together at the start without him taking a "detour" with brooke and them both hurting her in the process? sometimes i wonder if we were meant to like brooke as much as we do. this is still early 2000s. friends aired in the 90s and there was huge backlash when (not to spoil anything) a certain character had a one night stand. people were in an uproar over it and wanting to boycott the show. this is a handful of years later, and i have to wonder if maybe we weren't supposed to like brooke's character. her actions are indeed a bit pearl-clutching for the time. it just feels like they always pushed peyton and lucas as "meant to be" and we're supposed to be rooting for petyon but....brooke is so kind and so sweet and she's fallen so hard for lucas and has let herself be open and vulnerable for the first time ever. how can anyone not love that character? brooke has always been the one i've latched on to most. my heart just aches for her and i always wonder why the writers did this. i feel them pushing peyton from the start. i feel their vibe of "it should be peyton, pick peyton!" but brooke.....i just don't understand it and never have. i just want her to have all the good things and it breaks my heart for her. it just makes me wonder about what the writers' were thinking and feeling during this time and the reception of her character. and then there's the whole car crash mess! i think it's supposed to be a big moment when dan says "he's my son" and i get it, i still *feel* that moment all these years later. i know he's just doing what he has to, but i think it's the wording of "my son" vs something like "my kid" or something that makes it so impactful. i detest dan so much but something about hearing those words just makes me feel something. also sidebar, i lost a ton of respect for peyton and lucas this entire storyline, but them almost laughing about it all in the library scene made me outraged. brooke is someone they're both meant to care deeply about and they're being all giggly and saying how "it feels even more special because we have to sneak around" like what even. i could kind of understand how things may get out of hand. they are teenagers and yeah, dumb mistakes and choices happen. but that moment in the library was like the nail in the coffin for me. because it made it so much more intentional. they're hurting brooke intentionally, if they realize it or not i don't know. it's just such a mess. this is why i focus my love and attention on nathan and hailey lol

2021-06-25 19:17:15 +0000 UTCCan’t get behind more mad at Lucas cause Peyton’s the one that’s Brookes best friend she should feel worse you don’t get props for feeling bad but continuing to do what you know is wrong and I can’t give her the pass about the first time being in a stressful situation because that wasn’t the reason it happened if it was she would’ve admitted it to Brooke then stopped but she kept going. Ofc they both to blame but only one of them knew Brooke they entire life and that owes more loyalty then a guy u just started dating

2021-06-25 16:04:57 +0000 UTCSorry but Peyton and Lucas are both equally wrong. Whether Peyton was quote on quote trying to do the “right” thing is irrelevant because essentially she didn’t. Kissing your bestfriends boyfriend & having secret romantic moments with them behind your BFF back is never okay. Brooke deserved way better than that. I’ll never understand why people try to make excuses for Peyton when they know she was 100% wrong & has the same amount of fault as Lucas.

2021-06-25 10:47:23 +0000 UTCI liked this episode which I think was the midseason finale. I love how many questions are still unanswered - if and how Brooke will find out, what will happen with Lucas, what's gonna happen now that Haley knows about Nathan's past intentions, Karen and Keith's potential future still unanswered as well .. I think season 1 is one of the weakest seasons, but just bc all the future seasons are so good. Anyways this was still a great cliffhanger and we'll see how they'll answer all these open questions.

2021-06-25 07:54:26 +0000 UTCYes, i completely agree with that!
Caroline
2021-06-25 07:52:36 +0000 UTCyeah same!! I blame Lucas way more than I blame Peyton. Not to say that what she did wasn't wrong either, but as you said she at least felt terrible about it and wanted to tell the truth whereas Lucas didn't even care about that. We'll see how this gets resolved ;)
thisismaria27
2021-06-25 07:48:56 +0000 UTCyou know I get that Lucas and Peyton are just teenagers and overwhelmed with the situation and their emotions, but that doesn't make what they do okay. Lucas was actively pursuing Peyton, not considering Brooke in any of it and Peyton even said that what they're doing is so wrong. So yeah they're teenagers and mistakes happen but it's how you act afterwards that counts. They could've been honest with Brooke but instead they kept sneaking around behind her back which is just mean.

2021-06-25 07:47:41 +0000 UTCI mean .. I didn't give him credit for admitting that's his son, but for carrying him out of the car and bringing him to the hospital. I remember I was very surprised bc it doesn't seem like a Dan thing to do at all.

2021-06-25 07:41:38 +0000 UTCI've always been a little more angry with Lucas than Peyton for a few reasons, for years I've always seen lot's of comments of people being angry at Peyton but not many with Lucas, so I was always annoyed, thinking people should be angry at Lucas to he was also involved, plus Peyton when she first kissed Lucas was in a highly emotional state having just had to identify a body she thought might be her dad, thinking she might lose the only parent she had left and be alone. Also, the fact that Peyton tried to stop with Lucas, and felt bad for doing this behind Brooke's back while Lucas honestly didn't seem to care much and even seemed to like the idea of doing this behind Brooke's back. So yeah I was always a little more angry with Lucas then Peyton, although I was still angry at Peyton. I always thought that moment with Dan saving Lucas and acknowledging him as his son was a big deal because the one thing he never seemed to want to do was admit that Lucas was his son and now he finally did, also I'm not gonna lie when I first watched this episode I thought Dan was going to leave them there or maybe even be the one to hit them, so I was always surprised when he helped them instead, especially the amount of effort he put into helping them, ripping the door off, and carrying Lucas and Keith to his vehicle and then the hospital.

2021-06-25 05:54:29 +0000 UTCYes! I completely agree! It's also pretty refreshing too. You don't really see that anymore. It's always the other way around, like with Nathan.
Caroline
2021-06-25 05:47:25 +0000 UTCI totally agree that what Peyton and Lucas did was pretty bad but let's try and remember that they are supposed to be teenagers and you can't really expect them to not make mistakes. Like remember how bad Nathan was in the beginning and see how he has grown so far! Obviously we are older so we know that this is really bad and cheating is not okey but when i watched this as a teenager, although i knew it was bad i still could understand why and how they got in to this situation. I just feel like people kinda have to keep that in mind when you watch old tvshows for teens. That's why i don't hate them for doing this(which i see people say a lot, that they hate them for this). It also those not help that Lucas was in a car crash so you still feel bad for him too even though ur mad at him 😂 The Haley and Lucas fight was weird. I don't think Lucas knew why he was mad at her, he just could't deal with what Haley was saying. I understand why people don't get why it's such a moment that Dan said Lucas was his son. I feel like it is more that he finally is acknowledging him as his son and not the kid that is ruining things for Nathan. It's pretty bad that it took Lucas getting hurt for Dan to feel this way. I actually remember feeling nervous that Dan would not help them.. So it was shocking that he actually did help them.

2021-06-25 05:25:52 +0000 UTCThe way Lucas has been acting is bad but he still my favorite
2021-06-25 05:18:56 +0000 UTCLucas/Peyton/Brooke storyline is quintessential teen romance drama. But I think what Lucas's larger arc has been over the season is super interesting. Like he goes from someone kind and well mannerred to someone doing bad/immoral things. It's like Brooke corrupted him. The more attention he got from Brooke, the more he got swept up out of his life and started making mistakes. He chose her because she was easy and fun. I'm not going to spoil anything but I really like how they push this character arc through and what they do next season. Because what he's done so far isn't something you can resolve in an episode or two like some of the other storylines this season.

2021-06-25 05:17:37 +0000 UTCLast episode Payton kiss him so I think they both are the same level
2021-06-25 05:15:26 +0000 UTCi've never given dan credit for acknowledging lucas as his son or taking him to the hospital. it's like...what else was he gonna do? lie to the doctor or let lucas die in the street? there would be no point in doing that. why risk lying on medical documentation like that. why let someone die. it was more of a logical decision than a personal one for him i think. idk, i just don't believe in giving people credit for the bare minimum lol, but i think this was suppose to be a ~big moment~ for dan.

2021-06-25 04:37:26 +0000 UTCLucas is literally the worst! He is so selfish and it's being a complete jerk towards the people that care for him like Hayley and Brooke. It's soo annoying. Ofc, Peyton is also a pretty horrible friend but I think Lucas was the one trying to pressure things to happen between them, while Peyton was trying the best to do the right thing -- failing, but the effort counts though not for much... I can't wait for the next few episodes reactions, they are soo exciting.

2021-06-25 04:23:27 +0000 UTCWe were all pissed off at Lucas this episode and then the writers hit us with the ending lmao We aren't letting him off the hook but dear GOD, as ya'll said, he got MESSED up. I do blame Peyton less for this debacle because she was always trying to do the right thing. And then we learn that Brooke is falling in love with Lucas and it's clear that Lucas definitely doesn't return those feelings. Yikes.
I Am Not Chamari
2021-06-25 04:08:24 +0000 UTCYes, Luke and Peyton kinda suck 🙈 Also, in a medical emergency if there’s no legal guardian, the doctor is allowed to do everything to save the minors life bc consent is implied, ie, it’s believed the parents would want the doctor to do everything they can. So while a good scene, it wouldn’t have mattered if Dan didn't admit he was his father.
