When I first saw the gun I assumed he was going to end it for himself since he lost surfing and hope for getting his life back. I was so glad it wasn't that. For Julie, I think the thong thing was just to show the two sides of herself or her situation. The way she is around her trailer and the way she is in front of the rich people.
