i love what all jess is saying during her breakdown, especially "we don't have anything in common." that's a huge issue lots of sitcoms. they'll force their characters into relationships even if they don't have anything in common because "they loooove each other" and then the characters fight and argue and the relationships turn toxic. with jess and nick, they realized they love one another so much but with nothing in common and no common ground to build a foundation together, they made the decision to split. it was such a mature and emotionally wise thing to do. even if it's painful, they knew they weren't right for each other in this part of their lives. as silly as this show is, as ridiculous as they can be, it was such a mature and well-done aspect. i really appreciated it so much.

2021-07-15 19:02:29 +0000 UTCI honestly love this part of the show. Nick and Jess are the most realistic couple I can name in sitcoms, and that includes their breakup. They love each other, they’re great friends, but neither is really ready for this relationship because they still have shit they need to work out for themselves. I love how supportive they are to each other and how everyone in the friend group drops what they’re doing as soon as they find out to be supportive in their own weird ass way. It’s such a mature take on a well-trodden will they/won’t they story. They did, and now that aspect of the relationship can take a back seat and we can enjoy their characters on their own.
