I remember reading a theory that she just kind of self destructed after her brother Ben died. She mourned his loss and had no one to help her through it so she turned to drinking, smoking, etc.

I mean it's obvious she was perfect in the beginning when JD was idolising her, and now it shows a reflection on who she really is. Not a very nice person. That's all. Anyway, I felt for JD because at that point you don't know Elliot's relationship status with her BF.

2021-07-20 19:59:36 +0000 UTCThe Dani bit I used to really dislike, but it’s actually grown on me over the years. It kind of reinforces the theme that all of this (especially the romances) are limited to JDs often very skewed point of view, which is important for the rest of the season. When we first meet Dani, she’s almost cartoonishly perfect for him, so it kind of makes sense that the second time around is a more realistic correction of that. Is it an overcorrection? Yeah, probably, but at least it looks like Tara Reid is having fun.
