i love this movie so much! you'd be surprised what high school kids care about. i'll never forget my freshman year. i was always super quiet and shy but we had a school dance and my friends and i had a lot of fun. nothing bad, just danced silly and laughed a lot. the next monday, students i didn't even know and had never spoken to before were like "apparently you aren't as the shy little good girl we thought you were" and even made comments in class about me while the teachers said nothing. all these years later and it still has stuck with me and always made me question if i was laughing too loud or being "too much." it's so bizzarre the things people judge, even if it has no effect on them whatsoever. i love how smart this movie is, the humor is just fantastic but the message is also really, really good. i loved that it kept a balance of being a movie about and aimed for teenagers but in such an intelligent way. no one was aged up for an adult audience and no one was dumbed down either. it was just a very very good film and one i really enjoy coming back to.

She's really the only person that could carry a movie like this. Also, her "best friend" kind of always sucked, from the beginning. She couldn't even bother to listen and believe what her own friend was saying, which is how the rumor started in the first place.

2022-03-01 21:10:11 +0000 UTCThis movie is just SUCH a fun time. I also love The Duff as a movie, but as a standalone. As an adaptation, it's not great. The book EXCELLED so the movie didn't have the levity it needed for me. But if I forget the book, the movie is so good. I can't wait to see you react to the other movies on the list. Particularly, Pretty Woman, Clueless, Legally Blonde, Bring it on, Cruel Intentions and 13 going on 30.
