Honestly, this one didn't do it for me. Sid IS Scream to me. As much as I appreciate them doing a soft-reboot of the franchise and introducing 2 new final girls, one of which is meant to be THE new final girl, it doesn't work. Sidney Prescott is THE FINAL GIRL in this series. The new characters were okay, the only one I could actually stand was Tara. Sam wasn't compelling to me as an MC. Tara should have been the MC. The only part of Sam that was interesting was her ties to Billy and when she went full psycho. Scream 6, I'm so excited for but PLEASE, I hope they go back to the Sid as the MC storyline. Get Pat Dempsey back as Mark Kinkaid, since he's obviously her husband. Say they've been together since S3, they're old enough to have a teenage daughter that she didn't mention in s4. Go back to the original, Sid as the MC being attacked, something to do with Maureen again, introduce Sid's daughter as the new main IF they're going to kill Sid off (I hope not), but ffs leave Sam and the twins etc. in this one. Please.

What a pleasant surprise!! I love this movie. I loved 2, but this might go after the first one in my ranking of all 5. It definitely took a few viewings for me to wrap my head around it. The first watch was so overwhelming. I had so many expectations and wants so I forgot to watch it and appreciate it for what it is, but I definitely appreciate it now.

I liked this one the when I saw it opening night but had some nitpicks. But I’ve actually grown to really like with every time I’ve watched it (this was my 4th viewing). I almost always feel like the second viewing of any Scream movie is better than the first. Because the first viewing you are concentrating on the “who done it” so much that if you guess it correctly then you say, “oh it was obvious I guessed that” and if it isn’t the person you thought you think, “eh, it could have been better” because it doesn’t match what you had in your head. I was convinced that Stu was going to be alive and the one behind it. But on second viewing when I knew the killers I could enjoy it more and see the big picture. I liked that they brought back Randy’s sister (she’s in part 3) and deputy (now sherif Hicks from part 4). The first time I saw it I thought the reveal of the killers and reasons were weak. But the more I thought about it I kind of like that they turned out to be toxic fans of the stab series who met each other bitching about it on a message board and Reddit. And that Amber was “radicalized”. It’s definitely a very modern motive. To answer some of your questions, the guy with the greasy hair who died in the alley of the bar is Kyle Gallner. He was the main guy in the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. And I know you reacted to Veronica Mars, he played Beaver on that show. And one of the questions that you had about the hospital being so empty when Dewey died, the reason was because Tara was moved to a private floor of the hospital. I missed it the first time I saw it but sherif Hicks said after Sam was attacked in the hospital that she have Tara moved to a private floor. So at least they did try to explain it. Overall I liked it. Still not sure where I’d rank it. It’s better than part 3 and not as good as the original. but I find parts 2, 4, and 5 all in the very, very good range and I’d have them all very close.

my definitive ranking of the franchise from best to worst is: scream 1, scream 2, scream 4, scream 5, scream 3.

there were pros and cons to this one. i still liked it better than part 3, but i agree with your criticisms. it was a little too meta to the point of being over the top, none of the characters were likable, and the pacing was too fast. i also hated dewey's death. when they started to reveal that many of these new characters were related to the original victims i thought that maybe the twist would be that all the newbies were working together to orchestrate this. i might've actually preferred that to the twist we got. dark haired girl doing some of those killings alone seemed mega random and kind of ridiculous when you look at her size/ stature lol.

Yes please to fear street trilogy! They are amazing

Stacey

Also yes the killer that killed dewy was way to tall to be amber.

Stacey

I was so dissapointed in this...I wanted the killer to be stu, it was perfectly set up for him to be behind it. And that was Wes cravens original plan for scream 2 or 3 (can't remember which) For him to be orchestrating the killings from behind bars when it was revealed he didn't die. Also when Richie is watching YouTube you can see two videos one is "interview with woodbouro survivor Kirby" and "did the real stu macher survive"

Stacey

Was not a huge fan of this movie, I felt like the acting was off by the main girl I just did not see any emotions in her face so wasn't really buying into certain scenes. Love that Dewey, Sydney and Gale came back but was really pissed off about Dewey's death!

Michelle

I haven't watched your reaction yet, but I honestly did not enjoy this movie. With Scream being my favorite movie and franchise (to the point that I rewatch the entire thing monthly), I might be too critical, but I honestly hated so much about this one and I am worried about what the next one will entail. :(

I really enjoyed this one. I know a lot of people thought it was too meta- and I definitely get it- but I like that it knows what kind of movie it is and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Overall I really enjoyed it.

Meredith

omg yes! i love the scream franchise and can't wait to watch your reaction to this later.

cil

I have some pros and cons about this film, but I kinda feel like I knew you were gonna go into it with a negative/overly critical mindset, but it's cool. Also, Judy Hicks (the blonde cop) was in the last film and Mark a.k.a Detective Mark Kinkaid (Sydney's husband who they only refer to by name in this film) was Patrick Dempsey's character in Scream 3.

Clay W

SCREAM!!! Yay!! Steven, have you watched the Fear Street trilogy?? Wish you'd react to it cuz they're just straight up awesome.
