Remember bonnie got shot in the chest by an arrow and she literally sacrificed herself for damon. Thats why he respects her so much now.

2022-03-14 17:46:46 +0000 UTCThey're not abandoning Bonnie, everyone still currently thinks she's dead. I'm sure Damon might have his doubts but he's keeping that info close to the chest for now. He know that clearly the group searched for answers to bring Bonnie and Damon back, but were unsuccessful.

2022-03-14 14:12:05 +0000 UTCAs far as Damon knows Bonnie is dead for real. At the end of episode 5 Bonnie gets shot with a crossbow straight to the chest and she tells Damon the exact words of " I'm not gonna make it, but you are". So when Damon gets back he tells Stephan that Bonnie sacrificed herself to get Damon out of there, and they decide to just tell everyone she wasn't there, as to make it less painful for the group to know she "died" twice.
