2022-03-21 23:06:55 +0000 UTCYeah all the Jason being evil stuff comes out of left field. JustRushOnce's comment above does a good job of explaining why the writing is so up and down this season, I was completely unaware of all the behind the scenes stuff.

During the first four seasons of the show, I was going to high school the same time Clark, Lana, and Chloe were so around this time I was saying goodbye to high school also and the feeling was very bittersweet so the ending when they were all leaving and deep in their feelings, I could definitely relate to that.

It's one of the writing choices I still am upset about and don't understand so nah this was just bad writing from Smallville. Although ultimately I knew why it happened... I can't give Smallville a pass here.

2022-03-17 13:04:10 +0000 UTCSeason 4 is pretty good to me. Jason changed gradually as soon as they introduced his mother. The secrets started and you can see Jason change IF YOU PAY ATTENTION! I know there were some things behind the scenes but the change in Jason happened fairly gradually. A lot of your questions can be deduced but I feel that a lot of the confusion stems from the fact that you spend most episodes with your head your phone.

I hope you read this cause I'll give a brief highlight of what went down. The plot was going to be different, but christopher reeve passed away while filming the first half of the season. The writers were trying to do an overarching plot (similar to how they had a couple episodes dedicated to Lex going crazy last season). They were trying to move away from the individualized episodes and have a recurring plotline like a lot of other shows, but his death forced them to retool things. Part of that was Lana's witch storyline. It's unclear if that was because of fan reaction (it was disliked) or if it was them trying to reset things so they finished it all up in the episode she and clark go to china. Jason also got impacted as the actor filmed the pilot for Supernatural during the filming of smallville (around the production of episode 10-15, during early 2005). Once that happened, the writers not only had to start writing him out but the entire plotline they were building towards was thrown out. So his turn to being a villain while sudden, was because of him being a bit away from the show for a few episodes and then being left with only a few episodes to write this new storyline on the fly that closed the stones plot. The production got even more complicated as they had Lois which became a fan favorite and a green light from the network to include her more. So she became a recurring character and they started writing individualized episodes featuring her (like the one with the dog and the other one with her sister). Good thing is that I always like the finale coming up and season 5 is arguably one of the best seasons. You're in for a few good years of smallville. Most people consider this season to be the worst anyway.
