One of the handful of things that I hate about this show (I love the show) is how Jor-El is perceived. Like, Clark decides to interpret all of the teachings from the highly advanced program of Jor-El as some evil act to ruin Clark's life. The Kent's are just so eager to act like Jor-El is the bogeyman because they misinterpret the words and actions of his memory program.

Like jor-el said clark has a huge/great destiny and therefore had to be brought back from the dead to fulfill it, because EVERYTHING IN NATURE HAS A BALANCE. The life force that was brought back to clark will be taken away from someone he loves. The mistake was not going back before the sunset in the first episode which resulted in jor-el taking his powers from him as a punishment. But it was meant to be temporary but then clark had to go and die and that was unacceptable given the heftiness/importance of clarks destiny, which is why he was brought back and now someone will die as a result of that. Really creative storytelling imo

Clark got his life back, he will have to give something up that equals that in value and that is someone he is close to. Clark really does value the friends and family around him similarly to his own life.

2022-04-13 04:16:30 +0000 UTCI'm not sure anything in the episode is Jor-El punishing Clark. There are consequences to Clark's actions, and perhaps some of them are not under Jor-El's control. I always thought the "return or you lose your powers" thing was not Jor-El punishing or even imposing a consequence on Clark, instead it was simply a fact. Clark had begun his training, and that could not really be paused (or rather the training couldn't be paused for long before side-effects kicked in).

2022-04-13 03:50:39 +0000 UTCJor-El is definitely not punishing Clark by saying someone will be taken away from him. The punishment was taking his powers. What is Jor-El saying here is that in order to give life, you have to take life from someone. And it will be someone he loves.

2022-04-13 02:02:01 +0000 UTCI don't think Jor-El is trying to punish Clark here. He is simply attempting to make Clarke understand that his actions have consequences. Clark promised to return to Jor-El by sunset when he left to save Chloe from the freezing to death. Jor-El warned him that if he didn't return in time there would be serious consequences. He needs to return to resume his training. But Clark doesn't return by sunset, he actively decides to stay with Lana, even though she was already safe. In short, he made, what is an arguably a selfish and immature decision. He chose to avoid his responsibility (his greater destiny). As a result he becomes mortal. When he dies, Jor-El saves him but he can't do this without a serious price, (he's powerful but not God). He's unbalanced nature by bringing his son back to life and nature will seek to recalibrate.
