While it might not be made today (at least in the exact same way), the premise has been around for awhile. This is loosely based on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night where Viola dresses up as a boy for protection when she is separated from her twin brother Sebastian after being shipwrecked on foreign soil. As most Shakespeare comedies go, Viola falls in love with the Duke, who is in love with Olivia, who is in love with Viola's disguise, before wackiness ensues and it all ends happily with a wedding. It was one of many 90s/00s teen movies that were based on Shakespeare or other classic lit including 10 Things I Hate About You (Taming of the Shrew), Get Over It (midsummer Night's Dream, O (Othello), Clueless (Austin's Emma), She's All That (Shaw's Pygmalion), and Cruel Intentions (Dangerous Liaisons)
