I don't think Lorelai was trying to justify sleeping with Christopher when she was telling Sookie. She was just explaining that she was done trying so hard to hold onto Luke and make things work between them, and why she was done with it. I thought the bumper analogy was pretty spot on. I thought of all people, you'd get that, since you've been harping all of last season 6 about how Luke was being an ass. Not so sure why the sudden 180, but lemme tell ya, he WAS being a jerk. Lorelai wasn't a casual friend. They were supposed to be melding their lives together but he did everything he could to keep her out of it. I think it was very telling that, even before the whole April thing, Luke never moved in with his fiance. I don't support the Lorelai/Christopher thing, but I think at this point in time, it was right for Lorelai to break things off with Luke. She wanted so much more than he was willing to give her. It was taking such a toll on her. It was right for her own well-being to say it's over now. It is NOT 80% Lorelai's fault. I'd say it's 20% her fault, at the most. She should have told Luke how she was feeling but he shouldn't have been so dense. You were practically screaming it at the screen last season. Luke didn't even understand that he was hurting her when it was so obvious... You changed your whole viewpoint of it being Luke’s fault and dumped it all on Lorelai when she slept with Christopher. She'd broken it off with Luke. She needed some comfort. Hated that it was with Christopher but whatever. Luke was too late. It wasn't out of the blue. It was months and months of pushing her away until she felt insignificant in their own relationship. He's going around giving other people solid advice about their relationships but he can't see that he's doing the same thing with Lorelai? And now, when she's too tired to fight for the both of them anymore, he suddenly wants to get married again? Nah, they changed Luke's personality to give them this nonsensical drama, which I'll never forgive ASP for, but Lorelai's breakdown was realistic and breaking things off was realistic. Luke was at fault. She was trying to give him the space he requested for with April and it wasn't even for a good reason! In the meantime, he did nothing to slowly merge his life with Lorelai and his life with April, just wanted to keep things separate. There was no talk about how long that was gonna go on or anything. Luke was 90% at fault, IMO, and Lorelai was right to walk away.

2022-11-20 11:56:04 +0000 UTCVery behind and catching up, but I don't see the Luke Lorelai thing as a fault. There is no fault in my opinion. It was what it was. I don't even think that Lorelai sleeping with Chris was an emotion thing. She was given the advice to figure out what she wanted, and what she was willing to give up to get it. She decided that she wanted to be with Luke, and if he didn't want that... if he wasn't able to see that he was going to lose her if it wasn't right then, and choose her, then she did not want to fight for the relationship anymore. I get it. Sometimes it feels like you are the one fighting for a relationship to work. All it would take is a little communication, but when you are at the point she was, she was done. She was done fighting, she was done wanting to want to be in that relationship. She was tired of feeling like Luke was choosing his daughter over her. Not in regard to being with April, but if he had just allowed her in. Not excluded her from everything. Come in and say hi to April, and then let us have our father daughter time. This is my fiance, maybe you can get to know her better later... I also understood the self doubt Luke was having there, not wanting to share April, but don't put your relationship on hold because your daughter has come into your life. When Lorelai left that ultimatum, I believe completely that she was done. In fact, I think she went to Chris' because she NEEDED to be done, and sleeping with another man is the quickest way to make it official in her own mind. I kind of judge Chris for not saying no... I don't think of it as cheating though when in her mind, they were done. It was her way (imo) of saying I'm done, and I am going to come over here and end it for anyone who might try to change my mind later. Juvenile and ridiculous, but Lorelai has never had too mature of a thought process.

2022-04-23 22:33:40 +0000 UTCI think the speech she gave to Sookie sums up just how fed up she was. Also on the whole 80/20 split, Luke had changed when he first got with Lorelai, he read the book and was actively pursuing her. He bought a house for them after one date and was planning a future with kids, he upgraded her home to fit both of them and then when April came into the picture he completely switched up on her. He shut her out without a reason ( actually because April would like her more ) and often showed that he understood how much he hurt her like when they were in the vineyard so it just doesn't feel authentic when he acts all flabbergasted and confused when Lorelai approached him about eloping.

2022-04-21 21:13:33 +0000 UTCimportant side note: the palladinos are no longer the showrunners for the seventh season. they quit/got fired by the network. maybe you need to adjust your expectations for this season...

2022-04-21 20:49:32 +0000 UTCI completely agree with you. This is 80/20 Lorelei’s fault. One conversation would’ve saved everything. Lorelei knew Luke was not good at this. It’s not a break up after one fight and she should not have jumped right into bed with Christopher that same night. That is not enough time to be considered broken up in my opinion.

2022-04-21 18:32:51 +0000 UTCI agree. Ofc Lorelai could have had a more serious talk with him, but why should she have to explain her feelings to him all the time, he is oblivious to how she's feeling, oblivious about the situation and it seemed like he didn't care either. I'm sorry but if you love someone and said yes to their proposal, then there isn't anything to think about, unless you're not sure you love them. He's had time with April, they have a good relationship now, nothing should be keeping him from sayiing yes to getying married now. i'm sorry but i would have done the same she did, she even stuck around longer than i would have. She needed it to be over and in the moment you don't alwaus think rationally, so she slept with Christopher, big deal they've known each other forever. I don't think he even has a right to be mad about it. I'm on Lorelai's side here all the way, no wiggle room at all.

2022-04-21 13:21:38 +0000 UTCAside from the Christopher thing (which I understand was her just needingit to be over), I'm more on Lorelias side. She's the one that proposed. They were engaged. She can't see April until they're married. Luke kept pushing that away. He did at one point say they could elope if she wanted. Yet then she says, alright lets elope and get married, he says he has to think about it. What's there to think about? They're already engaged and planning to be married and he mentioned elopment before. At that point I would have been done too. It's like he doesn't mean what he says and since she's the one who proposed that maybe he didn't want it anyways.

2022-04-21 11:30:43 +0000 UTCI don't think she was trying to justify herself to sookie I think she just let out how she's been feeling for months....wanting to be involved in Luke's life but he's shut her out and made her feel like shit. I don't think she should have slept with Christopher but totally get how she got to this point

2022-04-21 05:46:01 +0000 UTCI’m still firmly in the 50/50 at fault for the relationship being over, they both made terrible choices and instead of communicating how they felt and where they were they just acted like it wasn’t happening. Everything could’ve been avoided had they had a single conversation instead of an ultimatum (that never works out long term). I get the Lorelai sleeping with Christopher thing, I’ve done it myself…when you’re hurting, you can’t fight for it anymore and you need it to just be over for good you do the one thing you know will nail the coffin shut…it’s done. I do feel bad for Chris though too, he is being used and doesn’t know why.
