Dean is a demon. Crowley was saying he wants to keep dean sharp and strong because the more he kills the stronger or better he will feel. dean needed to kill to keep from becoming a demon when he was human which is why when crowley brought up that he sent those people to kill dean to feed the mark dean responded saying "Otherwise i will turn into a demon i got that 6 weeks ago" meaning feeding the mark shouldnt matter cause he turned into a demon 6 weeks ago i can get why it being said like that might have made you not understand but he is a demon a very powerful one and has been for about a month and a half now.
