I don't think it matters when this came out. Pacey being able to say "this is something he just does" means he's normalized domestic violence. It's both abuse of power and grounds for CPS removal even in the 90s.

2022-10-17 00:31:54 +0000 UTCIt's saddest for me that Tamara can see something like Pacey's brother pulling a gun on him and a) not get him help since teachers are mandated reporters and b) continue to be with him knowing he obviously has a abnormal and domestically unsafe home life and their "relationship" is probably him acting out or trying to find some validation in an unhealthy place. It's always hard for me that fans really overlook with Pacey the trauma of that. A brother pulling a gun on another "all the time" is 100% grounds for CPS removal. Pacey's 100% normalized DV and Tamara as a teacher who's probably had mandated reporter training is using it to her advantage that he doesn't recognize what's healthy. And I'm glad you said it and 100% agree it's definitely abuse of power and you know if it ever came up that Doug was using his service weapon probably for any reason during off-hours and definitely for scaring his non-violent 15 year old brother he'd probably be fired in a second. His father's a policeman too and knowing unfortunately how common DV is among policemen and seeing how normal this is to Pacey you can only assume that's how it is at home probably with their father too.

2022-10-17 00:28:41 +0000 UTCYeah, Doug pulling the gun is kind of weird in today's world. It was meant to be a joke in the show...sarcasm basically. He wasn't actually serious or going to shoot him. In today's climate it definitely reads differently now.

I'm really excited to see you learn more about these characters and eventually get into s2 because that is where the show really takes off and s3 is just amazing.
