I won't praise it that highly, but its an exceptionally well done program. And very much worth the effort to watch. It's certainly in my opinion top 5 during the period it aired.

2022-02-09 06:14:09 +0000 UTCGood answers and synopsis. I'm a book fan too and not particularly happy with some of the changes to the lore. I did end up liking the season as a whole even if I did not like certain parts. Watching this again though was extremely enjoyable. Being able to watch it after some time has passed and accepting the changes, I could just enjoy it for what it was. This episode was a great introduction to the characters and the world. I forgot just how intense that battle really was. I know I'm about a month behind watching this reaction, but can't wait to watch the rest of them!

2022-01-03 23:10:02 +0000 UTCThis is based on 15 books (14 and a prequel), the author was a big fan of Tolkien (which most fantasy of the last 70 years is), and the first book definitely has some similarity with Lord of the Rings, after the first book it really develops as something that is it's own thing. Now you might get some people who are very upset about any changes int eh book, And for the most part I actually like a lot of the changes (though not all). but these books are long typically 700 plus pages with a couple over easily over a thousand pages. And people wanting a really faithful adaption might get disappointed, but the producers know that no studio is going to green light a project with the hope that its going to run 15 years, and have enough episodes each season to cover the details of the books. They are hoping to get 8 seasons, and they have already been renewed up through season 3. But 8 episodes, doesn't leave them a lot of room. I am hoping since it has done well for Amazon that they might up at least the episode count for the season to at least 10 (13 would be better, but Amazon typically doesn't do that large of an episode order). You asked some question that aren't ever answered, but... Egwene has become a women. In the Two Rivers when a girl becomes women (and an adult) she braids her hair. There is no magic or anything about it, its just them celebrating she is now going to take on adult responsibilities. Morraine is a member of the Aes Sedai a group of female women who can channel the "One power" called Saidar, for women. The male half of the of that power is called Saidin, and thanks to the actions of the Dark One, thousands of years ago, the male half has been tainted. Once a man can touch that power, he will eventually go insane. But the one power is basically the elements Air, Water, Fire, Earth and spirit. Most people can't ever touch that power. Some can be taught, and others are born with the spark (meaning that they will use it whether they are shown how or not. Aes Sedai all wear a large Serpent designed ring, that's why the person in the Inn called her Morraine "Sedai" her formal title, she saw the ring. Wisdom's is a title for wise women (various regions call them different names), but they normally now herbs and plants for healing, and predict the weather. They also tend to be one of the more important people in a village. Being a wisdom doesn't mean you have any powers. But some do.
