Season 5 had a pretty big execution issue. This episode is so big on scale, and I do still love it, but you have pointed to so many dumb writing choices in this episode that make me view it less through rose-colored glasses. Marcos is such a boring villain. I roll my eyes every time I see him. His scenes with Damon are where the episode fell flat for me. I still think this is a good episode, but it was SO clear that they were trying to waste time in the writer's room, so the spell could happen. Because why didn't (Julian?) tell that to Damon earlier? I am a huge Damon/Elena fan, but even if I wasn't, their kiss didn't really waste any time and it wasn't a will they/won't they situation. It was their moment of reunion. It took like, maybe 10 seconds of screentime. So, they could never bother me. Also we're at the end of the season where something like this was inevitable to me. I don't think Stefan's death hit me either, but that didn't bother me because we have an episode left, where I assume we are going to figure this shit out. It came out of nowhere and happened suddenly, so I mostly just had Caroline's initial reaction more than anything. The fact that ol' girl got swept away before Enzo is deeply frustrating, but I just had it made up in my mind that it was "nature" trying to prevent people coming back from the dead and that helped me out a little bit.

I Am Not Chamari

I must have blocked this episode out because I remembered none of it. Maybe one of the worst episodes of TVD ever? Slow, boring and lazy.

I guess Stefan's death hit me bc it was really surprising. It came out of nowhere. But yeah S5 had some real writing issues. Luckily S6 is soooo much better.

It seems that way to me since you wouldn’t forget which episode Stefan dies in and I won’t say anymore. If you think it’s fair, that’s fine. I’m just looking out for Steven, but I’m no Karen lol

Fly on the Wall

Also, I think this may lean into the possibly spoilery territory with the forgetting part with its implications.

Fly on the Wall

It made it predictable, but it gave the finale the stakes it needed. No one other than Damon cared that much if they saved Enzo or not.
