Yeah but from a viewer's point of view a cooling-off episode in between would have been better.

This is also one of the few episodes where Clark uses *all* his powers on screen (even though there wasn't really a need for the heat vision at the end). I think the next one down the line is Freak in season 6.

I've always wondered if the opening scene of Lois outdrinking the jocks is an homage to the Raiders of the Lost Ark scene where we meet the female lead Marion. It's eerily similar. I like this episode a lot. We get some growth from Clark when he makes the tough call to quit football. There is some effort to humanize the villian. Chloe is seeing Clark through new eyes and starting to realize what his life must be like. Even Lois even grows a little as she investigates the mystery (are we seeing a budding reporter?) and thanks Clark (the thank you was genuine even if she guilts him into staying at his house.) Steven, my suggestion would be to just consider Lois and Clark as siblings who annoy each other for the time being. I think you'll enjoy her a lot more if you do this. For example, the end scene in the barn with Lois talking about living in her car is meant to be comedic, but because you're seeing it from the POV of a future romantic relationship it came off as manipulative instead of humorous. I would shelve the relationship as platonic. The writers are in no rush.

You gotta remember alot of the time it is implied and sometimes brought up in episodes that several weeks have passed. Its not like the next episode is the next day, most of the time

Yah i think he took alot things too seriously in this ep in regards to lois. The first scene where she kicks that jock was her showcasing her badass self defense ability against a horny aggressive guy and steven viewed negatively lol. And towards the end of the episode to call that manipulation with some malicious intent at the end is harsh af. It was obviously a light hearted joky way of lois tryna garner sympathy for herself. Smh and he really took that one serious, i was in awe when steven did lol. I think its more, when he perceives a character a certain i.e (disliking lois) he will view her actions and judge her through a negative Lens, and that sucks but its understandable

While I really like this episode, I always found it jarring to see Clark so happy-go-lucky just one episode after Alicia's death.

You’re not alone in feeling annoyed by Lois, it’s how Clark feels about her too to an extent. Lois is brash, self-absorbed, and a brat. She’s more of a thorn in Clark’s side. I’ve always liked early Lois because her and Clark have a unique dynamic. He hasn’t had a consistent cast member who he has a back and forth with in a long time. Everyone around him is so supportive of him and he only has character conflict with Lex every once in a while. Lois flies in the face of that and challenges him and as you see in the end, manipulates him a bit. While it can come across as brash and annoying, I find it refreshing for the show to have a character have consistently unique interactions with the main character. Where else would we see new relationships be developed? Now that football is over, Jason isn’t really heavily involved with Clark and Lana/Clark have taken a big step back this season. Chloe is now trying to have a new relationship with Clark now that she knows his secret but Lois is the first character to really come in and add a bit to Clark’s interactions with the rest of the cast. He finally had someone he can bicker with.
