People don't normally realize when they first channel. In the books Nyneave's story about Egwene and her sickness. That's the first time Nyneave channels. Without realizing what she was doing she healed Egwene. If you don't have someone who helps you learn how to touch the source, you will either learn some means of doing it without thinking or it will kill you. Nyneave because she doesn't learn how to channel correctly, she can only do it when she's angry. When Egwene channels here, you might not notice it but she channels three different things at the same time. (Something that's difficult), she channels the fire that she attacks with, and fire to burn both the rope around her and the rope around Perrin's hands. She frees them, Perrin doesn't.
