Even though he was in the north and slavery was already outlawed then, he found a "legal loophole" and jumped on it. After working one of them to death, he did a public autopsy of her body for his show, too. Also the Jenny Lind stuff here is pure fiction. By all accounts she pretty much didn't care for him from the get-go. He and his wife were practically estranged, too. He was away for the vast majority of their marriage, and left her to deal with the death of their daughter alone. Just not a good dude by any account I've read.
