i agree with you about damon. it's not just that he has evil moments. it's that he snaps over petulant, juvenile shit. if his brother makes him mad or elena rejects him...he starts tantruming like a brat and goes on killing sprees because his feelings are hurt. that shtick gets old with him really quickly and becomes rather annoying. makes him less endearing and likable imo.

Kai is one of my favourite characters, so excited for this season

True! In the past seasons we have seen how important and vital Stefan is to Damon, but now we see how important Damon is to Stefan as well. His whole life feels off without Damon, there is nothing but emptiness.

Agreed. Everyone on this show has done some horrific shit, everyone is a killer. I always accepted that this is part of being a supernatural creature and living in that world and it was never without any real reason. You can only accept it as part of who they are.

yah hero, villian is quite simplistic definitions for any of the characters on here or The Og's

One of my fav seasons cuz they focus alot on the brother relationship. I never had a brother and always wanted one so this type of character development always does it for me. Same with shows like prison break and supernatural

Pretty much everyone in the show is evil. Even if they didn't do the acts themselves they are accomplices to them. It works best if you just except that its show about what villains get up to and enjoy the ride. I mean neither of the brothers are redeemable, and certainly none of the originals were.

A lot of the bad bad things damon has done was because of his humanity was shut off, like stefan. Damon has still done a lot of selfess acts in this show, which to me shows that he still can be redeemed. At the end of the day vampires are predators and not humans by default. That means that normal human rules dont apply to them. They literally have to drink human blood to survive. So with vampires you do have to look at them from a different perspective. What I like about this show a lot is the brothers and their bond. They are kinda like mirror images of each other. With Damon he did not want to become a vampire in the first place but was forced to turn by Stefan. After the years it was easier for him to not feel, because feeling probably reminded him of everything that he has lost. So he became more comfortable being vampire. But like even with the horrible thing he did to Lexi, that was when his humanity was off. Remember how Lexi asked him: "what traumatic event was too much for damon salvatore to handle" Damon replied that the 50s bored him. Later we on obviously learned why, cause he was tortured for 5 years. Essentially with Damon, he has mentioned this before i think in season 2, he has a crisis with trying to balance out the human and the vampire. When he gets too emotional, which he does a lot cause he is a very emotional character, he cant act rationally cause the feelings overwhelm him and he becomes impulsive. With Stefan its the opposite. He cant control his vampire side fully at all, which is also not good. Its probably worse because Stefans body count is most likely a lot higher than Damons since he was the ripper when ever his vampire side had full control. But even Stefan trying to drink animal blood isnt a good thing, cause he cant learn to control the urges then. He is a lot better at it now but the serial killer side will always be there and he has to be extra careful. So Stefan kinda has to be either or. Ultimately Stefan has done way more worse if are actually taking count but obviously his humanity was off. I just like how the brothers are completly opposite, it adds a cool dynamic. Damon has trouble with his human side and Stefan with the vampire side, and neither is good for mankind :D. With this show its honestly pointless to try and play the morality police sometimes, cause pretty much all the characters are more grey than black and white. I think its the best quality of this show that every character is not simple but complicated.

A lot of the vamps have baggage. Which makes sense because they've lived for so long and usually people die before the list gets embarrassing. I too was questioning myself about Damon's redeem ability here. Like don't get me wrong, Enzo, Klaus, Elijah, Stefan etc have all done some dark – unforgivable things. But with Stefan, at least, he kills when his emotions are off or when he's in ripper mode. Damon? He's volatile with emotions on or off and kills just for the sake of it/ revenge, no matter who it is. By this point I didn't really look for redeeming Damon anymore, neither was I rooting for him to win, I was just going along for the ride. The brother's relationship as a whole was the driving element for me here on out.

I feel it’s really important to note, In regards to Elena, Damon didn’t kill either of her parents, or her birth parents, like you said. And you mentioned it during a scene of Elena talking about Damon. He did kill Jeremy once. But that’s been talked about and forgiven etc. but the parents? Not even related, even Alaric and Jenna weren’t because of Damon
