It doesn't hold up at all for me, I didn't find it particularly scary some time ago when I first watched it. It has it's moments and some iconic scenes for sure. But it's strangely goofy and slapstick, and takes you out of being scared too many times. I think I remember finding at least one of the sequels scarier, but I haven't seen any of them for a while.

2022-11-23 18:05:35 +0000 UTCHave to pass on this one. When I was 7, my babysitter put it on and made me watch it, and for a girl who loves to sleep... it fucked me up for MONTHS. To this day, cannot watch anything with Robert Englund in it.

2022-10-09 12:47:01 +0000 UTCIt's my first time watching this movie. I didn't find it scary...maybe I'm just not scared of slasher flicks? The concept is pretty cool cuz I've heard of the "if you die in your dreams, you die IRL" theory...I will say Johnny in that crop top is ICONIC. Never even knew it came from this movie 😅

2022-10-08 16:11:36 +0000 UTCI watched these with a friend at a sleepover. We also watched the illusionist and I 10/10 recommend that one for your channel as well after the Halloween ones of course!

2022-10-07 03:18:36 +0000 UTCDefinitely skip 2. 3 and 4 are pretty good, Dream Warriors is my all time fave. No one will ever touch how great Robert Englund was as Freddy, hands down my favorite movie villain.

2022-10-06 15:46:16 +0000 UTCThe studio messed with the ending. That’s why it seems so weird. As for which ones you should watch? You can skip part 2 for sure. I’d say parts 3, 4, and then Wes Cravens New Nightmare are probably considered the best and worth watching. I also find Freddy vs Jason a lot of fun too but I’d catch up on both series first before watching that. I met Heather who plays Nancy and Robert Englund at a convention last year and have a picture of me with the two of them. Very cool.

2022-10-06 02:22:59 +0000 UTCNancy never died at the end. She "beat" Freddy by not succumbing to her sleeping fear. She "shook him off" basically. But then the movie left it open to believe that...the story isn't over yet... Also...the teens in this movie are Gen X. This is the Fuck Around and Find Out generation. The teens who walked around outside barefoot, and always went and stupidly investigated an odd sound they heard outside their house at night. Back in the 80s, all the behaviors they exhibited that you were thrown by were pretty much the norm at the time.

2022-10-06 01:49:20 +0000 UTCI saw this as a child at 5 years old when it came out in the theater. This movie traumatized me so damn hard lol. You have to remember that, in the original, Freddy was no longer ever human. Even when she pulled him into the Waking World. (In the Freddieverse, you have the Waking World vs the Sleeping World) You're stuck on Freddy Krueger the human. This is not that. Freddy is already the evil version of the Sandman at this point.

2022-10-06 01:46:15 +0000 UTCNancy Wheeler's inspiration being stalked by Victor Kreel and let down by the man who would spend his life with a Wino Forever tattoo after breaking up with Joyce. lol. This really does hold up comparatively well compared to some others. The concept really carries it. And Nancy is up there with Jamie Lee Curtis for best "final girl". She's a little badass. Also, I think that in this original movie the censors wouldn't let them call Freddy a pedophile, so they just said child murderer but it's implied by the pervy-ness. Personally, I love how bad the acting and tan on Nancy's awful mother are. It makes it so wonderfully cheesy. And I'm also amused by how utterly useless Glenn is. BTW, I think that your idea that Nancy also died at the end still kind of works because it's like she's in hell with everybody else. But sadly, I don't think she actually is. (I haven't watched all the sequels). Random fun facts: 1. The teacher in the early classroom scene is a character actor you've likely seen in everything from the Kroll Show to Insidious and still works today. She appeared most notably Magda the over tanned dog owner in There's Something About Mary. Looking at her IMDB page, I see she even played 'Parent #2' in an episode of My So-Called Life. So we all may have seen her more than anyone else in the cast other than Johnny Depp because her resume is HUGE! 2, Heather Langenkamp (Nancy) kept the tongue phone. lol. 3. There was an actual rotating room made for the Tina scene. I think there was an upside down room shot involved in Glenn's death as well. And when he leans through the wall at the beginning, that was just a sheet of nylon or spandex stretched and somebody leaned into it. Excellent practical effect. 4. Wes Craven credited his then 12 year old daughter for "discovering' Johnny Depp because she sat in on auditions or saw headshots or something and insisted they cast him and the girls would go nuts for him when they were looking for more of a jock type.

2022-10-05 10:08:50 +0000 UTCRobert Englund as Freddy Kruger is so amazing!! Well he's amazing in everything he's in. 100% my fave horror movie villain. One of my prize possessions is a signed photo of his my husband got for me ❤️

2022-10-05 08:52:39 +0000 UTCI’d say give the final one in this series, Wes cravens new nightmare a watch after this one. 1994. It has the same actress who played Nancy in it and it’s basically like they treat the original movie as a movie, and the actors who did Freddy and Nancy play themselves in real life, interesting one.
