Oh! I also want to add just for my own bit of bragging (I don't get to do that often) I saw an exhibit at the museum of the family's belongings and there was a letter written in her handwrittng and signed with her signature and it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a museum. I still get goosebumps thinking about that. All the treasures and sparklies and all my eleven year old self wanted to stand and stare at was her handwriting

Obviously Disney loves to twist storylines to be cutesy but there actually was speculation for a LONG time that Anastasia was alive because they couldn't find her remains in the burial location where her family was. The conspiracy lasted a long time and several women over time claimed to be her, but they did end up proving the entire family was deceased with DNA testing much later on. Very interesting.

This and Thumbelina are top tier non-disney movies imo. Also, I know you really like Musicals and Anastasia has one for Broadway and its very good, highly recommend!

2022-10-06 03:23:36 +0000 UTCWell since you did this "Christmas" movie in October, no worries that just means you can do little women in November or December lol I adore this movie so much!! And I think if you ask any girl who grew up with it, 99.9% of us would take Dimitri over that crown any day lmao some stuff in the film relies on you knowing some of the history already. Anastasia and yes even Rasputin were very real people and there were girls who tried to pass themselves off as being the surviving Anastasia, but all wound up to be frauds. One even had exact wounds she would have had which always makes me wanna know more of her story. But yes the real story is quite a lot to try to take in when you learn it. This is obviously very very very fictionalized but does rely on you knowing bits of the history such as names and who is related and how the curse works in relation to the real facts and people and what truly happened to them. This movie really is so beautiful and special. There's a stage production as well and I believe a Broadway play too!
