I understand why Prue is hurt, she has the most memories of their dad and therefore probably felt his absence the most. But seriously, to just assume that Prue is the only rational one in this episode, when I feel quite frankly she is the least rational here. They found out that they are witches, something that was hidden from them by the grandmother who raised them, so why is it hard to believe that their witch grandmother would have kept their father away, especially with the brief introduction to the conflict between the witch grandmother and mortal father?

Though not sure who will still see it as the post has been here a while now ;D I just go and check replies regularly since patreon doesn't have a notification system for this. We're like BTS army huh? XD I don't think we're that obsessive, but surely we will defend it from people who talk badly yet never properly watched the show. It's already so nice to see how many comments this show is getting so early on, most of them are replies from same people but still, I don't see any other show here to get such an active discussion happening.

This is one of the BOTTOM episodes, yes, it takes a little time to really get into this show and truly appreciate it for what it really is. I have said before and I'll say it again... this is NOT the best season, this is just the start and introduction to characters, their personalities and powers. My favorite seasons in the series is 3, 5, 6 and 7, (not exactly in that order) but to each is own of course. I LOVED Buffy, but for ME personally, Charmed takes the cake... and the pie, and the entire desert menu. My love for this show started after my mom passed away and the FAMILY to me is what this show is REALLY about, not just magic, women of power and my love for Piper and someone else that Steven has yet to meet, but the FAMILY aspects this show gives us on top of the stories and entertainment. YOU can hate on the show all you want, but those of us who voted for this show, despite if Steven finds some love for it or not, will always stand by it and encourage others to give it a go. Looking forward to those future reaction. BTW... they sniffed each-other. It's actually normal, like an animal sniffing others to get to know them, humans do it for memories. Take in a smell that reminds you of that person and what not. TBH, Charmed fans are much like the BTS ARMY, if you know you now, we stick by our show through thick and thin, we support the love and protect from the hate. TRUE fans will say "give it a shot" and "see how you feel at the end of season 3, then decide if you want to continue watching it." However, the hate and lack of knowledge will spark some well knowledgable fans to blow up in your face. If you never really gave Charmed a try... than I suggest staying silent during this time. It's not about what you like, it's about the fans of Charmed and our time seeing if Steven will hope on with us. If you don't want to see these reactions, he has tons more content for you to choose from. Have a nice day/night, ba-bye!

There's a reason fans are still rewatching it to this day and more reactors keep popping up. And it's hardly just about witches, storlylines and lore go much deeper than that. How much of it exactly did you see? Or more importantly, which season/episodes? Give it a chance, 3rd season is agreed to be great by most fans, so if Steven still doesn't like it by the time it ends, I don't think any Charmed fans here will want him to get through the remaining five. We do want him to enjoy what he's watching, but this is just not one of the shows that was great right from the start, so judging how he'll feel about the rest of the show because he's not too into the parts that EVERYONE skips on their Charmed rewatches is foolish and premature. There are so many boring, cringe and just crappy shows here, especially some latest additions, honestly if Steven actually enjoys those, I don't see how he can possibly not love some Charmed storylines since they're way more mature and compelling.

I don't get people who don't like the show or haven't even watched it, just prejudging the show and reactions to it, and then going and commenting that a reactor should not be reacting to a certain show. Like, seriously - if you don't like it ignore it, and watch the reactions you are interested in. It's that simple. Also, we are like THREE episodes in. I mean, CHILL guys. Let Steven decide on his own whether he likes it or not, Show hasn't even started yet basically. I, personally, never mind criticism where it's due, sometimes that is even the best part. More than anything I hate reactors that just LOOOVE everything from the first minute that people get them to react to. I would be disappointed if Steven suddenly from the get-go started praising Charmed constantly. Even die-hard fans like me have no problem acknowledging that the show is not perfect, especially 1st season.

You don't make it long as a patreon around here if you expect he'll fake his reaction. He's hated other stuff he's tried and that's fine. Most people that have been here for a long time know he'll be real. Again, like I said, he can stop the show whenever he wants. As Nyssa said, all fans know the start of this show is rocky. So is Buffy, which he loves. Some people think Buffy is corny and won't watch it either. We'll just have to wait and see what Steven thinks. You are basing his criticisms of the show as it is currently, which isn't a good basis for the rest of the show. You also mentioned that he doesn't like witches, which is true. However, that depends on his exposure to it. Let's see. He also said that he has similar tastes in some things to his sister and I believe that he said his sister likes Charmed. Furthermore, he watches A LOT of corny stuff and is fine with it. Sorry, but half the shows here are corny to some people. Overall, none of this really matters though. He'll either like it or not. A lot of people voted for this show, even long-time patreons, that really think he'll like it. So we're just giving it a shot. What's wrong with that? If I don't like a show he does then I just don't post in those comment sections and I just ignore the released episodes of those shows.

We all think it's cringey and cheesy to the point of unbearable...but there's a reason it became a cult classic and that reason is that this show gets tremendously better...I'm all for critiquing even my fav show when it deserves it and the first half of this first season definitely deserves it. But, as we've all said, once he gets through that, Steven would enjoy the direction the show takes. I, too, voted on Charmed because I genuinely believe, based on his reactions to other shows and especially to the Buffyverse, that he'd enjoy Charmed. We just haven't gotten to the part where it's enjoyable yet, not even for diehard fans...

2022-11-07 16:33:57 +0000 UTCI actually did vote based on what I think he would like. Charmed gets better in season 2 and really hits it stride by season 3. It's definitely the most Buffy-esque show out there and Steven seemed to really enjoy Buffy. I've also been watching Steven's reactions for a long time now in a lot of different genres. I wouldn't have voted for this if I didn't think he'd be into it later. Like Nyssa said...the beginning of Charmed is comparable to the beginning of Buffy. Yes, the difference is that the cheesyness lasts longer with Charmed because it has a longer first season. I usually skip season one of rewatch almost entirely, but occasionally I go watch one or two episodes that weren't horrible. Honestly I think this show is far more suited to Stevens tastes than some shows he does watch. I think he'll enjoy it in later seasons if he can get past this cringy beginning. As you said...time will tell. If he hates it he can always drop it and I think anyone here will be supportive of that.

They were trying very hard to make their dad seem like he could be bad and evil, so the actor was playing him creepy. However, this just came off as really weird when he turned out to not be evil. I get what they were going for, but the actor didn't have the ability to play a character like that and still make the audience like him. Phoebe gets better as time goes on. She's actually my favorite of the three sisters. I do get what she was feeling here with her dad. She was throwing caution to the wind because that's Phoebe, which is why her and Prue don't always get along since Prue is the more responsible, cautious one. Anyway yeah, it made her seem a bit dumb when she didn't tell her sisters about seeing the vision of her dad with the book...especially when someone had broke into their house before. Just know that the show does get better. Again, it's comparable to Buffy. Remember how cringe some of those season one episodes are? Xander with the bug lady for example. Yet, Buffy becomes a pretty great show. Charmed is the same. Season one episodes are weird sometimes. They do sort of a monster of the week...like Buffy...but the show grows later. One of the reasons is that one of the OG creators (Constance M. Burge) wanted the show to be more like it is in season one. There was some arguing over what the show would become. She ended up leaving after season 2 of the show. However, she started really losing ground after season one. So that is somewhat why the tone changes.

I literally laughed a few times at their music choices in this version because it makes the scene feel even more corny than they intended. Whomever did the music for the HD version Steven is watch...was just bad at it.

And while I understand you love how the remastered version looks (I get it, it's pretty), even the special effects look "off" because they've been redone. It's similar to the remastered Buffy. Everything is just so... disconnected. I hope you take Robke up on their offer.

Original version had specific sountracks to fit the scenes, giving them a certain feel and mood, while new ones just suck, the vibe is completely off and it doesn't give you the same experience. Pls watch original content, I heard Amazon Prime UK has it so try with VPN, but if you can't find it, allow me to send DVDs SEASON BY SEASON to avoid future spoilers, or just let me upload episodes online.

This is just part of the show to get through in order to reach the good parts, bear with it, many things change and improve.

Plus, I'm sure they've changed some of the other backround music during the episode. It's a lot more Gilmore Girls-y than I remember.

He sighed in the hug coz he was happy to hug his daughter, she was smelling him in the hug because she's a child that hasn't seen her dad since she was one. I also think you're being super negative toward the sisters. You're on Episode 3. Give them a chance. Also, Andy is not a stalker! Prue has known him since they were kids, she likes him, and he's naturally nosy as a detective. He has to be around to entice the feeling of the sisters being caught out. Sometimes it's just best to watch and not nitpick every single thing.

There were some solid concept ideas for the episode, but I think they were still just playing around with the magic of it all, figuring out what works, what doesn't, and not explaining it in the best way. Also, so true about the theme song. Try giving someone who has never seen Buffy to listen to the theme song, They will be confused as hell as to why you like it.

Though, to be fair, if I'd heard Buffy and Angel themes on its own before I ever watched the show and saw the titles, I wouldn't really think they're great either. It's just something about awesome songs paired with the opening titles that make them work better. I don't understand why Phoebe and Piper want to meet with Victor so badly. He literally walked out on them when they were 1 and 4 years old and didn't even see them, not even in photos, in 20 years. He didn't even know what Phoebe looks like. I would've been pissed if he'd shown up. Have no clue why Phoebe went looking for him in New York for 6 months. Maybe it's just me and my own dysfunctional relationship with my dad but no way in hell would I have been at dinner giggling at his lame jokes. Or calling him "daddy". I've always been confused as to how Victor knew about the shapeshifters. It's common sense to know that evil would be coming and also kinda believable that, knowing that, he came to alienate himself fully from the sisters so that evil can't use him to get to them. But knowing SPECIFICALLY that these were shapeshifters? That's weird... And I have no idea why the spell affected Victor. He's mortal. The spell called for evil to be destroyed. I guess it WAS just a plot device to make us care about Victor. Didn't work for me, either. You are right, though. They wrote him super creepy. I guess it's to throw us off the whole "is he evil" question until the last minute. I don't know why Prue suddenly forgave him enoug h to start calling him "dad". This episode is VERY confusing. We have the backstory with Victor and why he left, which is solid and I'm pretty sure we find out a little more as we go on, but their lore is not there yet. Trust me when I say it gets better. Even the way they kill evil does get better. And there will be more solid Big Bads and plotlines. Thanks for the reaction. This show has a rocky first few episodes but it finds its footing. It's truly a comfort show.

There are some episodes that are tough to watch mostly due to some massive cheese in the first half of season one but they figure it out. This show ran for 8 seasons with a dedicated fanbase for a reason!

Victor exhaled as he hugged her, and phoebe was just breathing loudly, coz emotions.LOL I like the premise of the episode, we introduced some of the family's history, and introduced Dad, though I agree with other people, the problem of this episode is that it just wasn't executed that well. The delivery of the actor (Victor) wasn't the best and weird in places, and they were trying to misdirect us that he was bad or evil, or not even their dad way too hard, so the character of Victor became too unlikable, but I always thought it was implied that he was too much of a dooch intentionally, so the sisters wouldn't want anything to do with him, and shifters couldn't shift into him and trick them. IDK, maybe it's just me. And yes, Phoebe didn't make the best choices here. But you gotta look at it from character's perspective and motivations. She is the youngest, she never knew neither of parents, we already know, she went looking for Victor, that why she moved to New York(stated in a pilot episode) She still had this romanticized notion, that she still can make amends and have a relationship with her father. Of course, she would not want to believe the worst and hope everything had a good explanation. I think Steven said it right: she is "the baby" in the family.

As much as I love this show, I have to admit (aside from a few episodes), the first half/first season of this show is a big ball of cheese lmao. Give them some time to figure out the direction and the footing, the same way you did with Buffy, and it does develop so well. Yeah, Victor was weird (his actor was soooo stiff.) This whole episode is like, pick a struggle. Father or shape-shifting neighbours. Combining the two was most definitely a choice that was made, but not a great one lmao. I can't even defend this episode tbh. It's not good.

I also think the weirdness comes from the specific actor and how he played the role. Also that was Phoebe who was sniffing him in the beginning lol and I promise her character grows into a very likable person
