2022-05-26 09:47:21 +0000 UTCPaul Rudd is 8 years older than Alicia Silverstone, This came out in 95, so she would have been 17ish when this was filmed and Rudd would have been mid-20s which may have been why it felt a little odd for you. Cher is 16 and Josh is "in college", it's implied a freshman or sophomore, so he's 18 or 19. It's a little weird at that age, but not completely unimaginable. It's especially better when you know that this is actually a modern adaptation of Jane Austen's 1815 novel Emma, and that the Josh equivalent in the book is about 20 years older and has known Emma since she was a child, which is hella creepy by modern standards. So, Josh being a slightly older ex-step brother was probably not the worst choice to adapt that even if it is a little skeevy 20 some years later. Also, in the 90s Steven Tyler and Aerosmith had already heavily sexualized an even younger Alicia Silverstone in the 1993 videos for Cryin' and Crazy, so maybe we just already saw the actress as "grown." Great videos by the way worth checking out if you've never seen them. Tyler also features his own daughter Liv in the Crazy video, make of that what you will. Christian is gay. Cher was just too "clueless" to pick up on it at first.
