It is interesting to see Jane listen to the reason for the murder, because the killer is very much like him. She lost her family and tried to get revenge. And Jane asked her one important question: "Now that it's finished, was it worth it?". He's trying to get approval for his own quest of vengeance, but sadly for this killer "it didn't change a thing"
