Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman who play the parents were the complete opposite of their character to the actress of Matilda, Mara Wilson. The mother of Mara was sick and died during filming, and during the whole time they took Mara in and took care of her. The complete opposite of the Wormwoods who gave her up for adoption.
