Yeah, Jules does not have a great situation at all. She was just as devastated as Rue was, I'll be it in a different way, like, she needed to get out. It's shameful that it had to happen like this, but to frame it as Jules just not caring about Rue is ridiculous.

I mentioned this in the last episode, and although some people disagree, I really think you should watch the special episodes. Why some people, including me, claim it is the best of the series is because it doesn't put style over substance like the rest of the series. These are episodes that are more quiet and pensive, but really stellar storytelling throughout. And while you don't need to watch the episodes to understand the plot in Season 2... I mean... much of Euphoria's plot is nonsensical anyways. Watching those episodes will give you a deeper understanding of the aftermath of the train situation, for both of those characters, and, I think the conversation in Part 1 will help give context for Rue's journey in Season 2. Part 2 really helps us understand why Jules made the decision she did in this episode, which is part of the reason why I could never dislike her. Hunter Schafer (Jules) co-wrote her episode (Part 2) and it is just a really exquisite episode and I am so upset that they did not have her in the writer's room for Season 2. I will say this again, not to be spoiler-y, but there is a conversation that happens in Part 1 that directly affects some of the things that happen in Season 2, so it is also not even completely unnecessary to the plot.

i agree with you. he doesn't actually need to watch them for storyline purposes either. you can skip the 2 special episodes and still completely understand what happens in season 2.

I mean...it apparently works, which is a sad commentary on society. That's kind of this whole show's deal...style over substance.

jules pissed me tf off during that scene on the train. the actor that plays nate got a concussion from that scene with his dad. praying 4 fez. we LOVE ethan btw. i might get a lot of hate for this but whatever the two special episodes are very boring. they’re both just sit down conversations with one character the whole time. they have a few good moments and information that’s needed for season 2 but it’s not that important. like i went into season two without watching the special episodes and i was just fine watching it. so ultimately it’s obviously up to you but just a warning of what those episodes are like however i’m very excited for season 2! it’s crazy to say the least.

also i agree with you about jules. it's one of the issues i've always had with her character. she's very selfish and acts from a place of self interest most of the time. i'll expand on this more in season 2. she really didn't need to get on the train at the end of the episode. especially since 1. the train thing wasn't even her idea, it was rue's and 2. she saw how broken and distressed rue was in that moment, pleading with her not to go. she also knows rue is a recovering addict whose barely hanging on by a thread. to leave her in that moment was incredibly selfish.

the show definitely goes for style over substance a lot of the time. it's almost like the showrunner thinks that flashy lighting, loud music, and funky camera angles makes his show ~edgy~ and ~artsy~ enough that people won't notice the countless issues with the writing, characterization, and scripting. lol. some of his editing choices aren't as deep and symbolic as some people like to pretend either. they're pretty heavy handed tbh. anywho im curious what you'll think of season 2. a lot of the flaws you pointed out from this season are even more apparent in season 2 so i'm sure you'll have a lot to say about it. lol
