The mom is a ripper and the only thing that quelled those tendencies were the Heretics (her other family) it allowed her to experience her maternal side. Without them or better yet the thought of never seeing them again is slowly making her spiral as we saw in this episode. Yes she definitely hates that side of her. Also, with Enzo, do you remember he said he also values Loyalty in that same scene, that's why he was being nice to Damons mom
