Like other people say it's not really a spoiler to say that thankfully the ramifications of this episode do echo throughout the series. Such a well done episode. The actor who played Jimmy is so good. I also think the Peyton/Lucas part wasn't necessary. I love that as much as it's hard seeing this happen to Keith when he came back to the show and was really doing great, I think this is totally in character for Dan. He's been emotionally and physically abusive to Karen and Deb and Keith and Whitey as well as Lucas and Nathan. He's a sociopathic narcissist. You could see throughout the election he lied and manipulated so much for power, and it came naturally. He loves having this bolstered image of himself as a pillar of the community/basketball star/business owner/family man/politician, but it's for show. We've seen his anger issues, we've seen him physically attack his sons, and when people like that go unchecked they don't suddenly flip a switch and become healthy and able to handle relationships, they evolve. And I'm not saying he's 100% evil, or angry people can never get help, but he's an adult who has been validated constantly for being an ingenuous, making choices that hurt other people, and always prioritizing himself, and we can believe in different types of consequences and punishments that we think are helpful, but there's a reason kids need some way to learn frustration tolerance and empathy. At some point it gets really hard for people to unlearn really engrained harmful ways of acting and living. Just like how Jimmy constantly had the idea that he didn't matter reinforced over and over, Dan had the idea that he mattered more than others reinforced throughout his life, and that became how they saw the world.

So I’ve mentioned this before but im watching this show chronologically for the first time with steven week in & week out. With that being said imo Dan doing this made all the sense in the world to me. He’s still adamant that Keith tried to kill him so that still burns him up inside (pun intended). Dan absolutely loathes his brother and since he caught his wife cheating with him and add upon that the alleged attempt at his life, dan was blazing with fury, and i believe the show did well to get that across. I was like you steven, i honestly thought he was in the clear until I saw the dress shoes 😡🥺😢. Still processing this ep

As mayor, Dan probably did know where the tactile teams were and what they were doing. The only thing I'm unsure of is if they would check the fingerprints on the gun since eye witness accounts would have said it was just Jimmy and then they would come up on that scene with the gun next to him.

Or, at least if you're going to force that narrative, do it in a way that makes sense. Because Dan going and picking up the gun and just shooting... just like that, in the middle of a hallway, seems so insane. Unless he has some ultra instinct mental radar and knows the positioning of everyone in the area... shooting his brother in this situation with swat and cops all over is helllla ballsy. I mean... really insane. I guess he safely assumed that no one was running closer after that first shot, and safely assumed that no one would get there before he could set the scene to his liking? Hard to imagine that this was his best chance to kill Keith discreetly. I get that he's hoping to blame Jimmy but is that really such a great opportunity that you go for it with huge numbers of law enforcement right around the corner? Tbh I'm probably just angry that it happened at all, a decade later and I'm still angry...

I didn't want to say anything last week in case of spoilers...but when Steven mentioned last week that he thought that maybe a school shooting could result because of the time capsule being released, I had two thoughts. 1. Wow, that just came from nowhere and is quite accurate, just you wait. 2. more importantly, my heart broke for all you Americans, that school shootings are so common place that Steven's mind automatically went there. When I saw this when it originally aired, it never even crossed my mind that this is where the storyline was going. Now +15 years later people aren't surprised by it. It is so sad I really like this episode for what it stands for. Like many of you have said, it is one of the best episodes that cover this topic. It is not sensationalised or made into "a very special episode" like a lot of shows try to do, but just shows the tragedy and fear of the situation.

2022-06-30 14:21:30 +0000 UTCwe talk about pivotal moments in tv shows, but one tree hill did an entire pivotal episode. every single thing in this episode matters going forward - the biggest obviously being Keith's murder. I love especially the iconic ending monologue where Lucas talks about this darkness and how it got here and then we get the ending shot ... whoah ... the entire episode we thought Jimmy was the monster for what he did - and it truly is absolutely terrible - but through this episode we learn how he got to this place and how people failed him (which doesn't make it right, but you can't help but feel empathy) and then we see the ending and that the real monster here is Dan ... bc Dan had everything that Jimmy was talking about - a secure future, a family that cared about him, he was popular - but he lost all of that by his own design ... and that makes the ending so chilling or as Lucas said: does this darkness have a name? is it your name? with the ending shot being on Dan.

2022-06-30 08:19:13 +0000 UTCThis. This is it. Honestly its worth watching all 9 seasons just for this episode!! It's without a doubt the most anticipated episode for most if not all of us. This is, without a doubt the best school shooting episode ever made. It was so raw and real and never expected to happen in a show like this, which is why OTH is so legendary in my opinion. I love that they make it about the characters (especially Jimmy) and not about the statistics or other stuff. They focused solely on what drove Jimmy to do a thing like this. I feel its important to remember that Jimmy didn't just walk into the school and started shooting, he only did it after one last act of bullying.. Jimmy's acting was so good its haunting.. Most memorable line was for me the "I'm not here" one because it reflects purely his state of mind. And trust me, this show has changed forever. Nothing is ever going to be the same. The repercussions from this show would stem all the way to the end of the show. Rip Jimmy and Keith

I do not think it would work nowadays because it would be profiting off of the tragedies happening, but this was before most of the school shootings happening now (not al but most) and it really didn't seek to glamorize or trivialize it. It really tried to understand the evil and horror happening to kids now and portray the complex levels of pain that cause it. And this episode is not just a trivial episode. It affects every character and the whole show forever onwards.

I would say its probably the best school shooting episode ever done (degrassi's is probably the only one comparable) Such a moving episode, that like you said is still relevant today. A true tragedy, not only for Keith but for Jimmy. The creators of the show, the writers, crew, and actors put their 110% into it. Shoutout to the guy who plays Jimmy. He was just an extra pretty much and they brought him back for such an important, pivotal role. He acted the hell out of it and left his mark on the show for sure.

I love that it wasn't just the school shooting episode. It was important and it mattered. It was never forgotten.

I agree - Jimmy's actor was the MOST underrated actor on this show. He was barely in it but when he stepped up to the plate he SHINED. He makes me cry every single time.

2022-06-30 01:42:51 +0000 UTCvery hard episode to watch. so sad how this aired 16 years ago and we’re still dealing with these issues and even worse i just wanna say that the actor that plays jimmy did such a good job and brought me to tears many times and even though he’s doing such a evil thing the way he told his stories and feelings always makes my heart break for him </3 this episode will never be forgotten in the series. it’s one of those that always sticks with us. it also made me respect the show and actors alot more that the fact they’re able to do an episode like this and portray it so carefully and well. ugh FUCK DAN
