Whitey's story was kind of out of the blue but I love him and I guess it was a reason the game mattered. Lucas telling Karen about his HCM helped bring her out of the fog a bit.

Last episode she snapped at lucas and this ep she did so with Coach whitey and Deb. She’s had that disheveled look since Keith died and she is absolutely going through it

2022-07-20 05:46:38 +0000 UTCok so I may wanna put some things in perspective. 1) the team forfeited the game bc as Nathan said they win and lose together. if one of them can't play, they all can't. they did that to show how far Nathan has come bc a season ago he would've never done this. 2) it absolutely makes sense why Lucas tells Karen now about his heart condition - he's been carrying that around with him for a long time and he now stopped playing basketball bc he doesn't want his mother losing him too. HCM only risks death by over-exhaustion, which he is now taking out of the equation. the whole point was to take a worry away, while at the same time showing her that she is still needed. Karen needed this to snap out of her grief like Whitey said. 3) Brooke's behavior made sense bc Rachel continued doing it at the cabin and Brooke thinks she is just paying back what she got. But Mouth is right ofc this kind of behavior only leads down a dark path and in the end she said she's not gonna follow up or out Rachel to the school, she just wanted to scare her, which yeah is wrong but it's not like Rachel didn't pull the exact same shit too. But yeah I agree Brooke should be above it by now. 4) I think they included this fall out boy story to give Peyton the realisation that she needs to go after Jake. As both Brooke and her dad said, she needs to follow what she wants. This episode is no highlight, but it pushed some important story beats forward and the next couple episodes really drive a few major things home.

2022-07-19 11:02:11 +0000 UTClol so I feel like most of this episode was just guilting people who are grieving, but I guess it was kind of important to do that. Deb's conversation is what made Luke put his health first, so he could make sure his mom is okay. That is why I'm okay with him telling her in this episode because it centers that relationship again and makes Karen be able to focus on Lucas again. It is the wake up call she needed. Sadly, Lucas is all she has left.

I remember seeing this for the first time, being introduced to the song We Belong Together, Lucas telling his mom about his HCM, getting the surprise of Jake at the end, and seeing Peyton finally having a moment to escape from it all. For as crazy as we all get about the LP/LB relationships, I feel like Jake and Peyton are severely underrated.
