I get what you're seeing/saying about Shawn. For me, I think he and Minkus have this mutual rapport together. Like Minkus can give it right back and Shawn knows this and respects him for it (ie: the "he's smarter" comment). I feel like Shawn is the type of guy who - say, someone at the school genuinely is picking on Minkus, saying cruel things, shoving him, etc - would actually stand up for him if he came across that kind of behavior. Bear in mind Minkus was included in their water wars thing and some other things as well. I think Minkus can hold his own with them and that their bullying is more banter than anything cruel. Now if Minkus didn't give it right back and hold his own and seemed genuinely hurt by them, then that would be a different story. But that's just my two cents. I def. think if (God-forbid) they remade the show, Shawn would definitely have to be toned down a bit this early season, or more fleshed out. Right now though, they weren't sure which characters they were keeping and what dynamic they were going for for each of them. Danielle just said this week on the podcast that she was left in tears because they threatened to fire her after like her first episode or two. It still is finding it's footing. But please don't discount Shawn. He's a good kid with a good heart and you're going to see so many wonderful storylines with him. I know it's hard to see now because you're a very empathetic and protective person from what I've seen. Just please keep these things in mind.

Apparently family matters was popular at this time and the network didn’t want another nerd like character taking away from Uriel or something like that. If you ever follow this up after it’s over with sequel girl meets world with Cory and topenga raising girls, minkus and many other cameos show up there
