2023-06-01 22:26:48 +0000 UTCI think it is important to note that all of these terrible things she has done is connected to Nate in one way or another. Trauma bonds can make you a lesser person. And eh, Nate asking her that question was rooted in horrible misogyny any way. I get that it is dangerous considering the risk of STIs, but it's not like Nate asked her for that reason. I didn't like Maddy in Season 1, but I enjoyed her this season and she really didn't do anything bad this episode. So, it was just so jarring to see such vitriol hurled at her.

2022-08-01 22:23:02 +0000 UTCcompletely agree. there are plenty of valid reasons to dislike maddy. it's weird when people go out of their way to try to convince people why she's not so bad lol. of course she looks like a saint compared to nate because he's a full on sociopath. but that doesn't mean maddy is likable on her own. she's done enough to make her quite despicable imo.

Many people feel bad for her because she's in a relationship with Nate, which makes sense because he's the worst and she doesn't deserve the hell he puts her through. However, outside of that, she's not a good person. From what we've seen in season 1, she lied and implied she was raped even though it was consensual, falsely accused someone of a crime, constantly rude to people for no reason, lied to Nate about her being a virgin which is problematic since it's dangerous to mislead someone about your sexual history, and cheated on Nate multiple times. She and Rue are so different because even though Rue does some messed-up stuff, she eventually feels guilt and remorse for it, but not Maddy.

Lol Every generation will always listen to the bangers of the past, especially in a predominantly white neighborhood like this. Makes them see cool. I've never been thrilled by the way black music, particularly rap, is used in this show, but it certainly isn't unusual and honestly expected for high schoolers to listen to throwbacks in this way, especially at a party. I am really not a fan of this season, but this was a strong premiere. I think how you feel about characters will ebb and flow because there are a lot of interesting writing choices (or sometimes, a general lack of material) that are made that are... well, certainly choices. Also, Maddy really isn't that bad lol, especially in this episode. But yeah, this show is really about what makes a good/bad person. I think they push their limits a bit with some characters (and just some really horrendous writing) but at its core, that's what I'm trying to do. I always find it interesting who people hate vs. who people love, especially since these characters are teenagers and it's mostly about whether they have the potential to be good or whether they continue down the path of evil. That's why I'll stick with Nate is an evil person since he very much is set in his ways, while mostly everyone else still has a lot of growing and molding and changing to do.

2022-08-01 04:36:16 +0000 UTCthis episode is so amazing. the one shot scenes are so great. this whole season is shot on kodak 35mm film that’s what gives it that grainy yellow effect. that nate and mckay scene still traumatizes me to this day bc wtf was that😭😭 i really really hope you learn to like or be okay with maddy this season. she really changes and grows. cassie on the other hand😐😐 no no no. she knows nate choked out maddy which is her “best friend” and all that shit and she’s gonna have sex with him??? nope. AND YESSSS LEXI AND FEZ! i’m convinced everyone loves them. they’re so cute i was blushing during their scenes😭😭
