this is my favorite DCOM probably not a fan of high school musical movies( possibly because I worked at summer camp when it came out so it got constantly played there however Camp Rock is not too bad for the time, I love Descendents if you have not watched them yet.

2022-08-05 08:13:51 +0000 UTCIf you're looking for other DCOM musicals to watch, the HSM series will always be a fun watch, but if you haven't seen The Cheetah Girls, I'd recommend it as a fun, female-centric DCOM with great music and a lot of heart. I'd also recommend Teen Beach Movie and Let It Shine. Camp Rock is a super popular one too with good music. For music-adjacent DCOMs, (not technically musicals( I'd recommend Stuck in the Suburbs and Pixel Perfect.

I actually watched it for the first time in college since I deemed myself ~ too old ~ to watch Disney Channel when this movie came out, so I don't have the same nostalgic vibes as a lot of people do. However, the music, as you noticed, is genuinely great and the story is solid. The music teacher/detention person is Tisha Campbell, most famous for Martin and My Wife and Kids. Hayley Kiyoko (Stella) is a popular queer singer. She's been releasing her own music for some time now. Bridget Mendler did some music stuff and acting stuff in the last ten years, but now she's pursuing her Ph.D at MIT, which is, super cool!

This movie was everything when I was younger especially because it felt more real in a lot of aspects and felt very emotional. It's actually based on a book which I feel explains a lot of the movie's tone. The interesting thing is, in the book Scott is pressuring Mo bc he wants to have sex and ends up dumping her bc of it so Mo ends up with Charlie. I do enjoy the choice in the movie, though because, even though Charlie isn't a bad person at all, his behavior during their fight was pretty bad.

2022-08-05 04:35:11 +0000 UTCi love this movie!! in an era when a lot of teen movies became utter trash this one had heart and genuinely felt like it could have been a classic d-com right up there with the 13th year and jump ship lol it had that heart that so many of the movies that were being put out were missing. also a suggestion - maybe some d-com throwbacks: jump ship, tru confessions, the color of friendship, and even though it was in theaters, cadet kelly. those are some excellent teen disney movies.
