In terms of other parts of this episode, Will was being an absolute douche. Telling Unique she needs to stop with the “boob thing,” when there’s been so much incessant discussion around sex and sexuality, some veering on very inappropriate, unique talking about her boobs was the last straw? Give me a break. Puckerman has said actual gross/disturbing things for sure. Hell, even Artie and Finn. Marley’s original songs kinda suck tbh, but the glee club won regionals with original songs last year and based on the number of episodes left in the season, it’s safe to assume that we won’t be getting nationals this season. So, I think they’re safe to do for regionals, although I did prefer when the other students were also working on songs. Marley should sing a self-written solo a la Rachel and then the group can work on a fun, up-beat number. Also, Nene Leakes is a famous reality star lol Her character made her first appearance last season, so she’s not new - they just brought her back. The whole point of the Blaine/Becky/Roz scene is so Blaine can begin to question what actually went down with the school shooting. And… Funny Girl. Gosh. So, as this episode mentioned, Barbra Streisand starred in the musical Funny Girl (1964, maybe?) which was then made into a movie musical (1968?). Don’t Rain On My Parade, I’m The Greatest Star and Some People are from the stage musical. Rachel sung Don’t Rain On My Parade during Season 1 Sectionals, Kurt sung Some People for the solo auditions for nationals in season 2, and Kurt sung I’m The Greatest star for his west side story audition last season. Rachel also sung My Man for the solo auditions for season 2 nationals, which isn’t in the stage version of the musical, but is the closing number to the movie musical. What’s actually hilarious or troubling depending on who you ask, is that they actually did revive Funny Girl this year and it’s currently on Broadway. There’s been a lot of drama surrounding it, but Lea Michele, Rachel herself, is taking on the role starting next month! Life imitating art, I guess! Finally, you mentioned why glee didn’t do a spin-off. Ryan Murphy wanted to. He wanted the Rachel and Kurt New York story to be a spin-off while they continue with the glee club on glee. The network said no, and basically we get this hodge-podge of two shows in one, with Rachel in New York and the McKinley high glee club.

I think it’s important to mention that this is Cory Monteith’s last episode. Due to Cory’s struggles with addiction, he had to check into rehab and was unable to film for the rest of the season. And unfortunately, he passed away in the hiatus between Season 4 and 5. I thought it was important to mention just so you’re not blindsided by his absence and so you can maybe look on his last moments more fondly.

They did original songs back in season two for Regionals and Nationals. They won Regionals, but not Nationals, but that might be more because of the Finchel kiss that made everyone uncomfortable.

I'm pretty sure the new directions won, the season they sang the original song.
